Robert Wilhelm Bunsen coined the name kakodyl (later modified to cacodyl in English) for the dimethylarsinyl radical, (CH3)2As, from the Greek κακώδης kakōdēs ("evil-smelling") and ὕλη hylē ("matter").
It was investigated by Edward Frankland and (for over six years) by Robert Bunsen and is considered the earliest organometallic compound discovered (even though arsenic is not a true metal). Bunsen began studying it in the 1830s and had determined its chemical composition by 1843; during this time Bunsen discovered cacodyl's flammability and extreme unpleasant odor.[3] As this was prior to the invention of the fume hood, to avoid the unpleasant odor of the chemical Bunsen worked quickly and breathed through a long glass tube that extended to the outside of his laboratory. Despite these precautions, Bunsen learned the hard way just how dangerous and toxic cacodyl could be: he nearly died of arsenic poisoning and lost sight in one of his eyes after a glass vial of cacodyl exploded in close proximity to his face.
From cacodyl, other compounds were made, such as cacodyl fluoride, cacodyl chloride, et cetera. One compound, cacodyl cyanide, was particularly dangerous. so this is happening.
All my #Rust #RustLang repos are moved over. Now I just need to figure out CI, republish to crates.io, and archive the github side (and document a tombstone in their readmes).
I have a bunch of other repos I'll either archive or delete as well.
#KDL and #orogene will remain github-side for now because they're a bit more dependent on github services, but I would like to at least move orogene over eventually. KDL might be stuck, though, unfortunately, but I might move only kdl-rs.

Inspired by One Million Checkboxes, I created a collaborative, realtime nonogram web game where you can help solve all 24,976,511 possible 5x5 nonogram puzzles. When you solve a puzzle, it solves it for everyone in realtime.

@Vivaldi on mobile and my personal laptop.
Vivaldi being the daily driver browser, and I've still got the DuckDuckGo pseudo-VPN running on my phone to additionally block tracking happening through basically all of my apps.
@phanpy seems to run well as a PWA through Vivaldi on Android 🎉

Today's Rare Earth was on insects - how they're doing and how we really need to work with them.
Here's my favourite example of how much we take insects for granted: Cattle make wet soft dung but wombat/kangaroo dung is dry/hard, so when cows came Australia the native beetles couldn't cope.
Since there was no fast way to recycle it, cow dung piled up for months/years. A decades-long project brought in foreign dung beetles so fields weren't covered in poo. A similar recent project had the strapline Beetles with Benefits.
