MH & PH rant

I'm slowly going crazy, since February, I'm very often ill with some mild cold and it seems I have now very deep sinusitis. Second round of some new antibiotics now and I hope I'll finally be free of it. It's really hard to do anything more complex when I have constant flat pain in a part of my head.

The June 17th, 2025 Jail/Zones Production User Call is up:

youtu.be/NFdT5DnKZSU

We discussed RAM testing with Poudriere, BSDCan, migrating Jails to a new host using ZFS, podman compose, podlet, podman VNET requirements, PkgBase jails, followed by a FANTASTIC DEEP DIVE into software-defined networking with ZeroTier, WireGuard, VXLAN, NetBird, and more, to a point that we will probably schedule an SDN call!

So you know how the free software movement was started by getting frustrated with bad closed-source printer drivers?

Printers themselves are notoriously temperamental, with a hefty helping of planned obsolescence and crappy business models.

I (probably) can't fix "temperamental" but why shouldn't there be printers that you can build yourself? It blows my mind that we have this for 3D but not 2D.

Let's make this happen.

Messy electronics prototyping - daisy wheel from a Canon printer mounted to a stepper motor, solenoid triggered by a relay, motor driver on a breadboard

TIL that the lid close sensor on the is on the audio / mic jack board. If you don't reconnect it properly when you swap the mainboard... your laptop doesn't know when the lid is closed, clamshell connections to hubs think the screen needs to stay on, and it doesn't go to sleep properly...

(separately to fixing that, I still need to get suspend/hibernate working again, something is wrong there as well)

Pico C++ graphics fans may be excited to hear I just pushed my example of using psram for a full screen double buffer on the to my repo. See the readme here for details as the checkout of submodules is a bit messed up in a dependency. github.com/Footleg/rpi-pico/tr

Just shipped a new version of FediMod FIRES which includes an admin UI, since folks didn't find the API-first direction approachable.

github.com/fedimod/fires/relea

(It's still just the basic server + labels, not the datasets yet, needed to add this because of datasets)
