The file /etc/racket/config.rktd is actually architecture dependent, but we've been shipping the amd64 version on all architectures in the package racket-common. I'll have to figure out the right long term fix, but for now a search and replace of x86_64 with aarch64 (two places) should fix it. If not, please follow up on the Debian bug, or here.

Fedi promo video in numbers - a mini thread 🧵

I originally published the video "Introducing the Fediverse: a New Era of Social Media" on my self-hosted Ghost blog / PeerTube 11 days ago.

So far it has 10k views on PeerTube with 33 comments. Mostly positive.

I also uploaded it to YouTube 5 days ago - to spread the message farther - and it has 14.4k views there, with 166 comments (initially positive, but they've turned dark and critical lately).

Anyway these numbers don't tell the whole story

DO NOT USE THE APPMATTUS CERTIFICATE TRANSPARENCY ANDROID LIBRARY.

Over two years ago the library's developers were warned about the need to monitor the ct-policy mailing list if they were going to consume the Chrome CT log lists.

Over six months ago, an upcoming change to the log lists was announced on ct-policy.

The Appmatus developers ignored this, so when the change was published today, Android apps using Appmatus stopped working. Affected app developers are now flooding CT mailing lists demanding the log list change be reverted. The right fix is to stop using Appmatus - they clearly do not have their users' best interests in mind.

Some further thoughts on "the business idiot" theory. I was once told that the main weakness of engineers/technical people is that they want their work to be used (!!). Yes. But imagine how much time you'd have for politicking and positioning for power if you weren't "distracted" by doing actual useful stuff. Turns out I was channeling Jerry Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy: "In any bureaucracy, the people devoted to the benefit of the bureaucracy itself always get in control and those dedicated to the goals that the bureaucracy is supposed to accomplish have less and less influence, and sometimes are eliminated entirely". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Po

Another "law" of his is "Pournelle's iron law of bureaucracy": In any bureaucracy, the people devoted to the benefit of the bureaucracy itself always get in control and those dedicated to the goals that the bureaucracy is supposed to accomplish have less and less influence, and sometimes are eliminated entirely.[83] He eventually restated it as: Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy states that in any bureaucratic organization there will be two kinds of people: First, there will be those who are devoted to the goals of the organization. Examples are dedicated classroom teachers in an educational bureaucracy, many of the engineers and launch technicians and scientists at NASA, even some agricultural scientists and advisors in the former Soviet Union collective farming administration. Secondly, there will be those dedicated to the organization itself. Examples are many of the administrators in the education system, many professors of education, many teachers union officials, much of the NASA headquarters staff, etc. The Iron Law states that in every case the second group will gain and keep control of the organization. It will write the rules, and control promotions within the organization.[84]

In git, I am in branch A, and I want to update branch B to be exactly equal to branch A.

In hg, this is easy. In git, the only way I can think to do it is

git branch -D B
git checkout -b B
git checkout A

Is there a better way to do this, that doesn't involve a destructive operation?
