Hashtags are a vital source of discovery, however, they are often used in the wrong context to leverage popular tags for increased visibility.

This isn't just a technical problem, or a social/behavioral problem, it's both!

I have a few ideas on how to address this in Pixelfed:

- max 30 hashtags but only first 5 are federated
- add new report category for hashtag spam/misuse
- add ability to plaintext tags for specific accts
- easier hashtag filters (across feeds + explore)

⚠️ Update: Internet connectivity has again collapsed in following a brief period when residents could exchange messages with the outside world; Iran's nation-scale internet shutdown remains in effect, limiting access to information as the conflict with Israel continues

Graph from NetBlocks showing the network connectivity in Iran, from June 10, 2025, to June 20, 2025. The y-axis represents normalized connectivity, ranging from 0% to 100%, and the x-axis represents the dates. The green line representing Iran's connectivity remains stable at around 100% until June 13 when the decline begins with a sharp drop on June 18 and a second drop on the morning of June 21, after a partial recovery on the early morning of June 21, The drop in connectivity aligns with escalating conflict by Israel. The minimum and current connectivity levels are indicated as 3% and 28%, respectively. The chart has a dark background with red horizontal arrows labeled 'SHUTDOWN' indicates the period of disruption and a red circle highlighting the decline at the end of the period.

Please tell me that you already know that the BSD now podcast exists. Also tell me that you have listened to at least a part, of one of the beautiful BSD podcasts

When I was not a part of the FediVerse, at least not the active part, because I've had my accounts for a long time, I knew about BSD podcasts but I never seeked one actively.

However you have no excuse, because you not only run one of the flavors of BSD, you are also part of the FediVerse so you have no excuses not to go and listen to the BSD podcasts.

There are so many diverse subjects, that all you have to do, is pick one that you like, download it in a client that's not encumbered by a massive company, preferably one that's also free Open Source, listen enjoy and learn

And there are many different diverse podcasts

I'll talk about those later

The image shows Antenna Pod, a FOSS podcast client, interface with a dark background. At the top, there are various icons and status indicators, including a time stamp of "01:12," a battery icon showing 71%, and a temperature of 23 degrees. The main visual element is a logo featuring a yellow disco ball with spikes, a red microphone stand, and the text "BSD NOW" in bold black letters. Below the logo, the text "BSD Now • 12 Jun" is displayed, followed by "615: Wifi Brakes Unlocked." A "Shownotes" button is present, and the playback controls are visible, including a progress bar showing 24 seconds out of 43 minutes and 38 seconds, with play, pause, and skip buttons.

Review D50697 for -devel versions of sets (latest NFB 575.64) on now landed on main branch of tree as commit c7cde11f842b33bb36b85b91400bec795430c421.

From now on, whichever the newer version of NFB (New Feature Branch) and Production branch is tracked on -devel branch. Beta Branch is not planned to be tracked, and just being a trigger to preparing for upcoming NFB or Production Branch.

Note that as I'm not an insider of nvidia, I cannot start investigating until nvidia releases new driver sets.

In the spirit of existing on Mastodon as a more complete person, I present to you .... *drum-roll* ...

My Internet forum, VeganForum.org/ ! I've been running this forum, previously under a different name, since 2012.

is one of those things I feel strongly about. I'll leave it at that here, but happy to answer questions.

The forum has hopped between a couple of different Linux distros (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS) and now for almost a year on . And a couple of different VPS providers: Linode while running Linux, and Vultr now with FreeBSD.

I used to run a classic LAMP stack (with M=MariaDB) but now I guess it's FEMP (with E=nginx). And I've also always run my own mail system for the forum, consisting mainly of postfix and dovecot.

The forum software itself has been since the start. It's one of very few proprietary software products I use, but it has some great features and should rightly be credited for much of the success with the forum.

I have much to be thankful to the forum for, one thing being that my Unix server skills would never have been as good if I were never a forum admin/owner!

Driving while distracted kills. A new startup is shifting from soft nudges to hard enforcement, identifying all phones in a vehicle and forcibly putting them into a safe mode. Some fleet operators report as much as a 60 percent reduction in accident rates post-installation. spectrum.ieee.org/distracted-d
