Australia is a slightly less alarming mash of imperial and metric measurements (how is height in one and weight in the other???) but despite converting between the two systems my entire life I am still not sure what unit to order food at the grocery counter in, or how much is a reasonable amount.

@glyph I can cite precisely one NIST standard from memory, and this is it: “According to NIST SP 800-63b, section 5.1.1.2, we shouldn’t rotate passwords unless we expect they’ve been compromised.”

I busted that out on a call once and it stopped an entire argument. My CTO was also on the call and I saw him looking over at me, mouth agape.

@tekFree Teks for sale, cheap @glyph the standard has been updated this year. Now it's section 3.1.1.2, item 6:

> Verifiers and CSPs SHALL NOT require subscribers to change passwords periodically. However, verifiers SHALL force a change if there is evidence that the authenticator has been compromised.

今天在改進遊戲翻譯時,讀到別人寫的「定命是永久性的」與「由腎上腺素帶來的純粹的潛能爆發」兩句「中文」之後,覺得自己的語言觀被刷新了

The reason "AI"s don't say "I don't know" is pretty obvious. Nobody writes books, or answers questions on forums if they don't know. It's the "I know" answers that get recorded and end up in training.

It'd be funny if there were more "I don't know" examples to learn from. LLMs would probably use "I don't know" even if they did know, just to look like the examples.

Simple, native, reliable. 📌

Relative URLs can be weird, but the URL API makes resolving them super clean.
🚫 Not string concat
✅ Real path resolution
📎 new URL() throws on bad input
📎 URL.parse() returns null instead

For the fun, and a bit of nostalgia, I re-read some Asimov classics on robots as well as part of the Foundation saga these days. Also, as a coincidence, I was also playing with an LLM prompt for some specific job today. And it stroked me: this requires the same skills as given a clear order to robot in Asimov-land! Which also means that the frequent discussions by Asimov on the pros and cons of robots is like the discussions about AI… Maybe interesting to read them for inspiration😀

Sometimes, like a cat getting zoomies out of nowhere, I get the urge to do things like:

Searching for posts on fedi not addresses to me with "Thank you" in them and replying, "You're Welcome!"

Or climbing on top of the fridge and pretend to be a package of instant ramen.

You know, just normal girlie things! 🌸
