There's a short (~7 mins) documentary up now on PyCharm's origins. It just turned 15 this year, even though it feels in some ways like it's been around forever.

I work here and I still learned a few things about PyCharm I didn't know before.

Why doesn't Bash's programmable completion provide the cursor offset within the word being completed? With all the complexity around word splitting—shell quoting, escpaing, expansions—figuring out the intra-word cursor position by hand is a nightmare. Would it really be so hard for Bash to offer this info natively, rather than leaving script authors to replicate the shell's own parsing logic?

吉田恵里香が 『前橋ウィッチーズ』に込めた想いと、当たり前を疑い続ける理由 ashita.biglobe.co.jp/entry/interv...

The work DHH is doing with his Linux distro is amazing and has done a LOT of good for FOSS recently.

I don't agree with everything he says, but nothing on his blog is worthy of the hate he is getting.

This is a “boy who cried wolf” situation, when you call everyone a Nazi and try to cancel them for opinions that are debatable in polite society, it just opens the door for actually dangerous ideas to take hold. The modern left is unrecognizable from the left I grew up in.

me, holding a container of assorted alphabet beads: I wonder if there's enough of the rare letters or like if you can't make a necklace if your name is Xerxes

(I look closely at the beads that are legible around the edges of the label. Of the 16 letters I can make out, 5 are 'X')

me: I now have a different concern about the distribution of these letters.
