I feel sorry for the people who outsource their writing to “AI”. They will never discover the true value of what writing has to offer: debugging yourself, structuring your thinking, letting your messy thoughts emerge from the depths of your brain, to name a few things.
Even sadder is when people say “I am bad at writing so I use the AI”.
Practice is where the value is! No one is suddenly good at anything! Please, allow yourself to mess up, make mistakes and discover things!

ID cards are bad. Very bad.
1. Once they exist it will become necessary to always carry it. If you don't you must have something to hide, etc.
2. They can't stop people working in the 'black economy' because people currently employing those working for cash don't care.
3. It is another attack on trans and NB people (very unlikely someone would be allowed to have multiple IDs)
4. Massive data loss of personal information is highly likely.
5. Who pays? Why should they?
6. Police state becomes more likely with having your ID inspected whenever a copper wants to harass someone, especially POC.
7. OTHER OPTIONS ALREADY EXIST!
ID cards are a very bad, very dangerous, very expensive, and very risky idea.

Canada Post is a service, not a consumer product. The idea that it operates at a "loss" is stupid. It's like saying schools operate at a loss; hospitals operate at a loss; roads operate at a loss; sewers operates at a loss.
We pay for public services collectively, because they are simply needed for our society for function and for everyone to have (relatively) equal access to participate in culture/society/democracy.
Stop reducing necessary services to an income statement!

A colleague did benchmarks of our new internal web app toolkit-- slogan “use the browser; it's fast” -- pitted against React. It was not a contest. It was a a rout.
So happy I got to help make that work happen in the way managers help work happen: by telling the person whose idea it was that it was a really good idea, and giving the people involved as much space as possible to do the work.
Next challenge is to find a way to let them present on it in public. This is not a company that does open source work as a habit. It's so weird to me.

I really want to believe in the mobile web but since I did a hard wipe of my phone last week, my web browser has used 5.1 GB of the 8GB/mo data plan my partner and I share.
I don’t really know how to say this but I don’t leave home that often, and when I do, I’m typically listening to downloaded audiobooks or music.
I mean, ok, I forgot to reinstall an adblocker, but, and this is important: that *shouldn’t* matter. Of course, it does, and I’m now-more-than-ever taking the stance that “ad blocker”s are actually “protect me against websites doing malicious things” programs
