Which means seriously getting to grips with #bhyve.
Did some bhyve experimenting a couple weeks ago. Got FreeBSD installed just fine. Debian with ZFS, not so much.
So this week it's go back, one step at a time. Install base debian with grub, does it work? Then UEFI, then ZFS secondary disk, then root on ZFS.
This morning's install ends with a console saying:

The Debian installer wrote grub to disk, but... didn't configure it? Huh.
Time for some classic #sysadmin headdesking.

So you might have noticed me periodically complaining about my problem with Ubuntu/Debian where the kernel has an off-again, on-again bug with my laptop's particular AMD chipset, where it often goes to sleep and instead of waking up on lid open the capslock blinks to indicate panic. The problem has not occurred for about two weeks! I'm not sure if this means a kernel patch got pushed that finally fixed it, or if I just used Windows a little more this week and made a series of lucky dice rolls.

So I found a tactic that's working in my YouTube comments- thought I'd share.
If someone complains that a software I recommended is "woke", I ask them "what does that mean? Can you say more about that?"
They never say more. They delete their comment instead.
My tactic is to make them say what they mean. They won't.
Because they're cowards.
