Enjoyed reading The Atlantic's take on the highly incestuous and circular investments that are powering AI companies as they scrape and scrounge for more data centers. Or, why all this AI investment promises to be a lose/lose for everyone but the super rich. Tranches. Packaging and repackaging risky data center debt into financial instruments that people can buy or sell. Does any of this sound remotely familiar?

"Boom and bust can feel like two sides of the same coin: Consider also that if AI companies deliver on their massive investments, it would likely mean producing a technology so capable and revolutionary that it wipes out countless jobs and sends an unprecedented shock wave through the global economy before humans have time to adapt. (Perhaps we will be unable to adapt at all.) If they fail, there will likely be unprecedented financial turmoil as well."

Bobcat! In the backyard!

I’ve seen a lot of mutuals in northern areas posting bobcat sightings the last few days, so when the pups alerted me that something was out back, I grabbed the camera and crossed my fingers!!!

And lo - came on a Tuesday!

My gawd the light could not have been more perfect!!!

Bobcat in loaf mode, facing the viewer. Dappled light from the morning sun cuts a bright swath across the middle of the image, illuminating the cat and some of the undergrowth it is resting in. The top and lower third of the image is dark undergrowth.Bobcat sitting up on its honches, facing the viewer. Since this morning’s big kitty has obviously delighted so many of you, here’s a lil throwback treat.

This is a very zoomed in picture of two bobcat juveniles in their first autumn from five years ago. They were playing in this tree while the matriarch had a rest in our back yard near the watering hole.

One of these could well have been this morning’s visitor!

Two bobcat kittens, maybe 6-8 months old, are having a frolic in a tree that has begun to lose its fall foliage. The sky is a cloudy grey and the kittens are lit by the morning sun struggling to shine through from the right.

Remembering the time we were in Seattle and our little old Pomeranian met a gentle giant Saint Bernard puppy. Dovie doesn’t care about other dogs and completely ignored him, but he was laying down and gently pawing the air towards her to try to get her attention 😭

As someone who tends to know things (or how to access this knowledge) about systems I'm continuously involved with, I had a few people literally tell me the cool thing about AI would be not having to ask me questions anymore.

And I get what they mean but I also hear what they say.
