True story: I once spent an afternoon scrolling through someone's Facebook account to find out when he had acquired each of his cats because he had named successive releases of a software package he maintained after the damn things in the order in which they joined his family and I needed to know whether Pickles came before Chocolate or vice versa.

Whaaaaaat? Apparently a bunch of Unity LTS versions are now locked to the Industry/Enterprise versions: unity.com/releases/editor/arch

The Industry license Unity forced us onto last year (a different story) finally expired, but apparently we were building our game against a LTS version that was only available to us via that license.

Now we either have to figure out how to downgrade (not officially supported), or upgrade to a *way* newer version and fix all the resulting bugs. -_-

A table of Unity LTS versions from their website with many of the versions being marked as "Industry or Enterprise only"

I just sent to MIT Press a book ready for copy-editing. Been working on it for 4 years, full time for 3, and obsessively for 6 months. This is the first time I haven't had something pushing aside all other duties. (Exception: grandkids.)

I'm going outside to rake some leaves! I hear it's autumn already!

It's not something many people think about, but in many countries once you die your privacy rights cease to exist. Maybe you won't care, but this has a tremendous impact on families and other survivors, and needs to be taken more seriously: privacyguides.org/articles/202

Gaza families endure severe weather as tents blocked from entry amid humanitarian crisis

By Tareq Abu Azzoum

Reporting from Deir el-Balah, Gaza

We have heard from the Gaza Media Office that about 288,000 Palestinian families are suffering harsh weather conditions as Israel continues to restrict the entry of humanitarian supplies, primarily the entry of much-needed makeshift tents.

The humanitarian crisis is really spiralling out of control. Civilians in Gaza need, according to the media office, about 300,000 tents and mobile houses to house hundreds of thousands of families who have been badly impacted by the rain and flooding. They live in heavily damaged, dirty and flooded tents. Many are left stranded without any shelter.

That’s why some families have taken refuge in already overcrowded shelters, while others were trying to find refuge in whatever is left standing in Gaza City or in the south of the Strip.

The media office has called the US president to exert pressure on Israel to uphold its commitments to the ceasefire agreement, especially when it comes to the implementation of the humanitarian protocol.

I am running into a "mental block" I could use some help with.

I feel "guilty" when I use stuff like Biofreeze or Tiger Balm in fair amount to control my pain, even though it works well and can dramatically improve my mood and function.

This seems silly. but I still find myself resistant. Like I am cheating. Quite opposite of what I would tell anyone in my position.

Do you have experience with this?

Freshly installed Debian 13 Linux on a server just uses 270MB of RAM. Of course, once I install PgSQL, Redis, Apache 2/Nginx or Lighttpd, Python/PHP/Docker, etc., it will eat up 10GB. It is amazing how much good Debian is as compared to other bloated OSes out there, and it is all free. I can't believe that. Thank you all Debian devs for keeping it real.

running the `htop` command on my freshly installed Debian Linux version 13 server.
