I have very mixed feelings about Mozilla sponsoring Unitary Fund. All other things being equal, it's cool, UF does good work.

But things aren't equal. Mozilla keeps telling us they don't have time or money to make a browser — they're abandoning features, shuttering services like Pocket, and sluffing off Thunderbird entirely — all the while, they seem to have infinite money for making their browser *worse* with AI encumbrances. Them spending money on something inherently speculative is... oof.

Love this part of the @loops promotional profile:

joinloops.org/why-loops-matters

I can't remember if @dansup was in the room when I hollerd out that I wanted a Purpose not another Product in my Fediverse ecosystem ... but essentially, HERE IT IS.

Even though video creation is a bit lower down on my personal apps-in-pocket list, I so want to see this in my feeds, not another "influencer" app with billionaire ad copy stuck in front of everyone's stories.

Peter Thiel dumps entire Nvidia stake, slashes Tesla holdings amid bubble fears

"Billionaire Peter Thiel has exited his entire stake in artificial intelligence major Nvidia, filings showed over the weekend, amid growing concerns over an AI-fueled bubble in technology valuations.

Thiel also slashed his holding in Tesla Inc to 65,000 shares from 272,613 shares, and purchased 79,181 and 49,000 shares in Apple Inc and Microsoft Corporation, respectively."

In a conversation, I described what I wanted to see in open source funding and apparently the *exact* thing I described already exists.

1. connect your codebase to thanks.dev.
2. thanks.dev analyzes your dependency tree.
3. choose your budget.
4. thanks.dev distributes your donation to the projects you depend on.

Such a simple workflow, so you can support more projects easily, while not missing the less obvious ones.

Ever wonder why the "vi" editor uses H, J, K, and L keys for cursor navigation, and why Unix shells traditionally use "~" as an alias for the home directory?

The ADM-3A terminal was a very popular and inexpensive Unix terminal in the 1970s. Notice where the arrow keys are, and where the "~" key is? It influenced a lot!

A close-up picture of an ADM 3a terminal keyboard. The left arrow label is above the "H" key, the down arrow label is above the "J" key, the up arrow label is above the "K" key, and the right arrow label is above the "L" key. In the top right, a single key is labeled with a circumflex, a tilde, and the word "HOME".

“Our error logs cover 2000 billion MB-hours for the MareNostrum 3 supercomputer and 135 million MB-hours for the Mont-Blanc prototype. Our analysis combines quantitative analysis, formal statistical methods and machine learning. We detect no indications that cosmic rays have any influence on the DRAM errors.”

Are there any fediverse apps where the bulk of the processing, the rendering, and the authoritative datastore are all on the client? In other words, where the server does almost nothing but forward messages to clients and other servers, and minimizes storage on the server?

This structure seems necessary for a privacy-centric app, in order to minimize how much a user needs to trust their own server and possibly other servers. E2ee will help a lot, but it would be even better if servers didn't store who all our follows and followers are, for example.

Just brainstorming on how to get to a fediverse app with good privacy. I wrote a non-AP app like this with a simple UI, but I'd much rather take an existing fediverse app with a well-developed UX and modify it as needed. So that's what I'm looking for.

Thanks for any ideas!
