I can track web development eras like tree rings, but each ring is move-fast-and-break-things devs saying “we don’t care about Y and you shouldn’t either—here are a bunch of tools that disregard Y” and indie folks saying “no thanks, I do care about Y—those tools aren’t useful if they don’t take Y into account.”

Later it becomes “as an industry we have always thought Y was very important—we should build *new* tools that embrace Y, I wish someone would have said something before”

Rinse & repeat.

One of the great shames of my software career is that I have not once but •twice• been a part of a project where I found out only after I was off the project that a male manager or client had been just absolutely, utterly •wretched• to a female teammate.

In both cases, it happened out of my sight. I had no idea what was going on.

I still think to this day about my obliviousness: how I could have found out sooner, what warning signs I missed, what I could have done to stick up for my female colleagues.

When I woke up this morning, all the photos on my iPhone had somehow turned three-dimensional! I WAS ABOUT TO DRIVE MYSELF TO THE HOSPITAL… but, it turned out, this was because I’d somehow activated iOS’s startling new Spatial Scenes feature. Not cool, Apple, scaring me like that!

The centralisation of internet infrastructure is concerning to me. Having 20% of the internet behind one CDN and 70% on US big tech cloud providers.... not good

Europe really needs to get tech independence from the US. We need multiple European cloud providers and a restriction on the use of AWS/GCP/Azure for government and public funded services

God knows what was in their brekky but the kittens have the mads this morning. Although one of them did find a golf ball and rolled it across the floor loudly around 5am. There's been a lot of chasing and charging about, and landing on furniture then leaping off again. They did need two lots of kitten milk this morning, which is unusual. Extra fuel for the crazies.
