The lack of functional discovery features on Mastodon is so nice. One of the worst experiences on Bluesky is making a post and then 18 hours later completely random people start Discovering it. And they're almost never happy to see it, nor do they remotely understand the intent or context. Make a post for your friends on Bluesky and wake up the next morning to a bunch of messages from mystery people along the lines of "why did you post this??". And I just want to know well why did you read it??

The infosec hell was never users writing down their password in a post-it stuck to their monitor.

The true infosec hell is developers trusting centralized repositories of "open source" that nobody reads nor audits.

Again I have to battle against devs that, for pure convenience and laziness, put users and the company at the mercy of any random of the internet, with the willing to perform a supply chain attack.

I’ll be forever amused that the narrative around Zohran Mamdani has gone from he’s a communist who will drive rich people from New York to even Trump saluting this guy has a point, this country is now unaffordable for the average person.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

Hard to separate this iteration of fascism/authoritarianism from Big Tech. Big Tech has funded it; Big Tech's guiding ethos "move fast and break things" and "overconfidence in technocracy" informs how it governs; Big Tech's constant rent-seeking took over the federal government.

Since I am deeply involved in computer security, every time Danielle gets frustrated by having to jump through too many security hoops to access her accounts she looks at me and says jokingly, “This is all YOUR PEOPLE’S fault!” Hoo boy does this bring the issue of appropriate security controls home in a meaningful way.

Remember kids, the last leg of the CIA triad is “availability”.

You meet the users where they are to stop them doing the stupidest shit imaginable.

You have literally no idea how much this paid off. The number of infected media players people downloaded in the age before Windows Media Player had more than three codecs is unimaginable

Who knows if I saved the entire firm doing this

SwiftOnSecurity &
@Swift...• 5/7/16
Every corporate machine comes with
VLC because people kept trying to
download infected crap to play their
anime
