An Austrian media outlet published an article today on Trumps announcement to rescind most of the Biden government's executive orders.

Do any of you have reliable information on whether the executive order on "Enhancing Safeguards for United States Signals Intelligence Activities” could be among them or not?

Or in other words: should we prepare to say goodbye to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework?

@syseditFOSS Dev @fdroidorgF-Droid @yaleprivacylab
Disabling all updates on your device's OS is obviously not ideal from a security standpoint and will very likely mean you're vulnerable to malware and even simple exploits over time.

Perhaps more importantly for our software ecosystem is that developers will eventually have to comply or face irrelevance. We can't be stuck on old versions of Android ROMs which get worse and more insecure over time as well as tied to legacy hardware...

@syseditFOSS Dev @fdroidorgF-Droid @yaleprivacylab Plus, we should expect that finding good, privacy-respecting software like apps that are currently in F-Droid but not Google Play will get more difficult over time.

And, of course, Google already chooses to block software that gives us more autonomy and control of our devices, so it's not just about privacy and security. Google could block apps for any reason it sees fit and will block availability of apps based upon rules in specific jurisdictions as well.

@fdroidorgF-Droid I am the founder of @yaleprivacylab , where we have investigated and issues in apps since 2017. I can say without hesitation that this change makes Android users less safe.

Android is based upon free and software () and that has always been defined by user choice. Blocking the capability to install apps directly from trusted sources outside Play is not a small tweak. It removes a core freedom...

@fdroidorgF-Droid @yaleprivacylab We should not need permission to run software on devices we own.

Framing this change as protection does not reflect the reality of the ecosystem. Play has long allowed unsafe apps, invasive tracker SDKs, and supply chain threats that slip through automated review. Independent audits have consistently revealed these issues inside of Google Play, even *after* Google claims to have scrubbed.
