What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

Trying out a whole-class collaborative project to wrap up a grad seminar (formal math) for the first time this semester, and it's actually really fun so far and seems to be working out.

The students all contributed ideas, then we voted and went with one idea, which is nicely scoped. Today in our planning class, I used my experience as a software engineer to help the class (25 people) form teams, define an MVP, pick leaders & TPMs, and agree on initial interfaces.

Now we have four teams with dedicated purposes, each with one leader and one TPM. And we have an initial intermediate data format to help with the modularity, and plans for how to iterate.

There are two days left of class to actually hack on the project, and I am cautiously optimistic, and confident in my management abilities to help teams adapt to the unexpected, too.

Anyways, we'll see how it goes. But it's energizing.

my approach to software engineering is like that character from an anime, you know the one, she’s in a lot of anime

you walk into her workshop and it’s full of tools and unfinished projects randomly lying wherever there was free space, and you can tell she lives, works, and sleeps there

she’s sitting on the floor loosely cross-legged, taking apart a strange contraption of some sort, hears you come in and twists around to greet you. she’s wearing a lab coat over a skirt, either a uniform or just a random skirt paired with a random shirt, slightly messy white hair

you tell her what you need fixed and she gets a sparkle in her eyes, says “i’ve never seen one of these before!”, goes and fetches an unsettlingly large wrench (you have no clue what she’ll use it for but you know it’s the only tool she’s going to use today) and shoos you out so she can get to work. you come back a day later, it’s ready for you, and you daren’t ask any questions

ドッキング口全占有、8機同時在泊なのです
https://www.nasa.gov/blogs/spacestation/2025/12/01/space-station-first-all-docking-ports-fully-occupied-8-spacecraft-on-orbit/

to be acquired by , following their acquisition of .com which caused many users to migrate to Eventbrite in the first place. I think at this point it becomes very obvious that the is the best place to coordinate your meetups, and you have many options to choose from: , and even with the Event Bridge plugin. Everyone knows Bending Spoon's playbook, enshittification is inevitable.

I keep track of based and applications on the delightful experience curated list. See:

There are a couple of apps that have fediverse support on the roadmap. And a new very interesting candidate to add to that list. See :

🐿️can anyone who got Blobun recently on itch confirm if it's giving out Steam keys or not? we had one player who got it on creator day at the beginning of the current sale for whom it did not give out the Steam key, and we want to know how widespread of a problem this is

RE: front-end.social/@mayank/11562

Mayank (@mayank) is the most talented frontend developer I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.

They’re not only someone with a excellent grasp of web technologies, but someone who knows how to lead very effectively. I was constantly inspired while working with them, not just by their technical abilities, but how they were able to balance the needs of many constituencies, often cross-functionally, as well as, how they navigated legacy and future development efforts so harmoniously.

If you want a frontend leader who knows how take an organization’s frontend to the next level, hire Mayank!

You can delete a range of ZFS snapshots (a-z) in multiple ways.
The following will delete d and all earlier snapshots:

zfs destroy mypool/data@%d

To delete d and all later snapshots:

zfs destroy mypool/data@d%

To delete all dataset snapshots:

zfs destroy mypool/data@%

Make sure to let ZFS perform a dry run (-n option) first and display (-v) what
it would do to confirm that the delete operation is removing exactly what you
intended.
