As someone who has been an artist before,
and had my hard work stolen by billionaires without compensation and my copyright violated against my consent,

I cannot tell you how much rage and disgust I feel inside every single time I see a genAI image. I'm guessing many other artists feel the same. Please keep it out of my sight at least.

@Em0nM4stodonEm :official_verified:

I'm not an artist, but definitely feel angry when I see AI generated art. I am a musician and feel the same as you when anyone talks about AI generated music (have thankfully avoided listening to any thus far).

There's no talent or skill or years of practice. And it's shit to boot. Souless and empty even if technically 'good'.

Keep doing art anyway, this bubble will burst eventually ๐Ÿค—

I just realized that my short reflection on my journey through space with @djangonautDjangonaut Space is part of this weekโ€™s issue.

I wasnโ€™t expecting this.

Iโ€™m very grateful for the opportunity and the experience.

I recommend to anyone interested in contributing to Django.

While on one level this story of a AI-generated picture of a bridge collapse (after the earthquake centred near Morecambe Bay on Wednesday night) leading to train cancelations seems relatively minor, its an example of the sort of disruption that the use of AI is already generating.... we may soon find that having no real trust in any images will cause all sorts of social problems (which is not to say that disruption is not already evident).

Getting my nails done again tomorrow to remove my autumnal orange nails with the one ring finger that had a white background and orange flowers painted on it.
I'm not a Christmas person but I'm going to get red glitter apart from the ring finger which will be white. Going to see if my friend Bien can paint puffy the logo on that finger. We'll see what tomorrow brings. :openbsd:

Small design exploration. I built this because a famous message app uses one of these styles and it felt distracting.

Which do you prefer and why?

This *is* a small detail, but it unlocks a much deeper principle about when and why to use animation.

You can limit the depth of the displayed datasets in the "zfs list" output
using the -d parameter. To display only the first level of datasets below
mypool/usr and not the ones deeper than those, run this command:

zfs list -d 1 mypool/usr

GitHub is becoming more and more broken. Not only are they pushing Copilot everywhere, which is arguably one of the worst LLMs out there, but also keep deploying bugs. I tried to tell GitHub to stop recommending repos to me in the activity log. It made the page completely freeze indefinitely every single time. They probably vibe-coded that feature. This is happening increasingly often, in companies that can afford to hire every developer twice over.

Ughhhh, et tu calibre?
New features
Allow asking AI questions about any book in your calibre library. Right click the "View" button and choose "Discuss selected book(s) with AI"
AI: Allow asking AI what book to read next by right clicking on a book and using the "Similar books" menu
AI: Add a new backend for "LM Studio" which allows running various AI models locally
Release: 8.16.1 04 Dec, 2025; or here on their GitHub

Calibre is one of those pieces of software that I use from time to time but don't follow closely. I wasn't aware they'd been sipping from the poisoned chalice.

67 students. 6 weeks. 87 infections.

A new study finds the real driver of school virus spread isnโ€™t close contact โ€” itโ€™s air.

Poor ventilation (COโ‚‚ >1000 ppm) nearly doubles transmission risk. Hours in shared classrooms (RR 3.17) matter far more than minutes spent near someone (RR 1.16).

Itโ€™s the air we share. Fix ventilation.

This image of Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS was taken by ESAโ€™s Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (Juice) with its low-res Navigation Camera (NavCam) on Nov. 2.

The image shows 2 tails - a โ€˜plasma tailโ€™ โ€“ made up of electrically charged gas and a fainter โ€˜dust tailโ€™ โ€“ made up of tiny solid particles.

Data from Juice's 5 sophisticated instruments won't be downloaded until late Feb. because its main high-gain antenna is currently being used as a Sun shield.

And here comes a stunning image of Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS, taken on Dec. 2 by the dynamic astrophotographer duo of Gerald Rhemann and Michael Jรคger, showing the comet's tails in full glory.

It clearly shows a long wispy plasma tail and a dust tail that appears as an "anti-tail" pointing in the opposite direction.

The image was taken by their remote telescope in Namibia.
