Following a meeting with Netanyahu in Tel Aviv, German Chancellor Merz said:

The second phase must begin in according to President Trump’s plan, and Israel must sometimes be under surveillance.
Hamas must not have any role in Gaza.
⁠We want a new Middle East that recognises a Palestinian state alongside the State of Israel.
Negotiations on this are necessary now, and a Palestinian state at the end of the process.

Functional Python Programming in Introductory Computer Science Courses

The functional programming paradigm has a long and storied history, with its beginnings in the Lambda Calculus. In recent decades, pure functional languages such as Haskell have been shown to be highly effective in producing robust software due to immutable data structures, among other functional features. The advantages of programming with immutable data structures can also be had in non-functional languages such as Python. Over the years, non-functional languages have introduced immutable data structures as well as comprehension and lambda expressions, and it is possible to program in a purely functional style in them. In this paper, we present a ``best practice'' idea in introductory programming classes that forces students to learn and complete programming assignments in a purely functional subset of Python. By doing so, the student can learn functional ideas such as immutability, pure functions with no side effects, and stateless programming. We define a functional subset of Python and illustrate the best practice using small examples. We strongly feel that students in computing need familiarity with pure functional programming and argue that this can be taught in introductory programming courses that use Python.

Neděle: Rusko aktivovalo všechny své zahraniční influencery v koordinovaném informačním útoku na Evropu. Celé MAGA hnutí včetně jeho vrcholných představitelů zaplavuje digitální prostor výzvami k rozpuštění EU, revoluci proti „evropským byrokratům“ a vyzývá k podpoře krajní pravice, která prý jediná dokáže „zastavit cenzuru a civilizační proměnu Evropy“. Tomu všemu pomáhají technokraté jako je Musk nebo Durov, kteří navíc už v minulosti ohnuli algoritmy svých sítí tak, aby podobnou propagandu rychleji šířili. Ironickou tečku tomu dodávají představitelé Ruska, jako je Medveděv nebo Dmitrijev, kteří výzvy k „ukončení cenzury“ hojně sdílejí a komentují napříč všemi známými sítěmi, a to i přesto, že v Rusku jsou veškeré západní sociální sítě včetně Facebooku, Instagramu nebo X úplně zakázány. Zatím nejostřejší reakci ve vrcholné politice předvedl polský ministr zahraničí Sikorski, který Muskovi vzkázal, aby „odletěl na Mars, kde mu nikdo nacistické pozdravy cenzurovat nebude“. Klíčovou informací ale je, že Rusko si (samozřejmě) přeje rozpad EU a NATO, aby mohlo snáze napadnout jednotlivé státy. Now that it's consistently below freezing we can experiment with making ice outside. First attempt with a shallow plastic cylinder, but only the top and sides really froze after 12 hours.
Last year I used a little goat cheese “pyramid” container and got a wide variety of results (2nd & 3rd photo). I think distilled water produces the clearest ice. No idea on what causes the spiky air bubbles.

a round cylinder set up on edge where the inside isn’t frozen and the back facing away from us was more jagged ice and leaked water. This is standing up in the (frozen) bird bath with early morning sun behind it and you can just make out water in the lower 1/3 of the shape. The ice has lots of air bubbles in it.a truncated pyramid (trapezoid?) shaped ice block using plastic goat cheese container. The outside is mostly clear ice although there’s some patterns along the edges, inside didn’t freeze and so you can see the water level about 1/4 way down from top. It is sitting on top of wood and where the ice/water touches it the wood is illuminated and magnified a bitA really odd freeze where most of the outer edges are solid and perfectly clear ice, but there’s a round-ish blob in the middle that didn’t freeze and emerging from the top of it are spikes of air trapped in the ice. This is being held up to early morning blue sky so you can just make out finger tips along the bottom

처음으로 위상 수학 공부해보고 있는데, 책 보면서 어떤 개념에 대한 정의를 보고나서, 항상 뒤에 나오는 theorem이나 lemma를 혼자 증명해보려고 하는데 잘 안되는데 이게 욕심일까요ㅠㅠㅠㅠ 그냥 정리를 보고 그대로 음 이렇군 하고 이해만 하고 넘어가고 싶진 않아서요....ㅠㅠㅠㅠ 어떻게 해야 할까요

Turns out a bit more complicated than I thought.

- Prevent possible infinite loop if there's circular reference (if any of the post quotes an already-listed post)
- Max batch limit, if exceeds 30 status fetches, stop, show a button for user to manually "unwrap" another 30 - for very, very long chain of quotes
- Add a little CSS scroll-driven animation fun with `timeline-range-name`, so new, that even Biome (& Firefox 🥲) doesn't support it yet github.com/biomejs/biome/issue
