ヤマトヌマエビの一般家庭での飼育繁殖。
前提として、卵から孵化したプランクトン状態(ゾエア幼生)の子供達を育成しないといけないもので、しかも自然下では川を流れて汽水域までいってそこで豊富なミネラルと他のプランクトンを食べて大きくなって、何度か脱皮を繰り返した後に突然エビの姿になってそこから川をまた遡って淡水域で育っていく生態の生き物なんやけど、家庭飼育環境での成育は一部のガチ勢が毎日手間暇掛けて(人工海水の素を毎日用意して水換え等)やっと成功するレベルって言われてる。
で、色々調べて知識が増えてくるにつれて自分の中で｢え、この理屈ならこうすれば生存率は高くなくても水換え無しで稚エビまで育てられるんちゃうの？｣って考えがずっと付きまとってて、初めてゾエア育成挑戦した時に毎日水換えしてたけど上手くいかずで、これは性分に合ってないやり方と悟ったのもあって2回目からは自分の中の理屈を通して挑戦してみた。
水換え無しの問題点としては結局通常の水槽飼育と同じで排泄物や餌(人工飼料)の食べ残しから発生するアンモニアが主で、とりあえずそれを解決すべく濃いめに出来たグリーンウォーターで汽水を作る事から始めた。
初回の失敗から少しずつ改良していって、それでも2回目3回目もあと少しってところで些細なミスで全滅させてしまったり。
そして今回4回目の挑戦は過去の失敗から得た部分を加味して理屈を再構築してみた。
【初回からの共通】
容器は設置スペースの問題と弱めのエアレーションでもしっかり上下層の水の循環を生む為にダイソーの蓋付き縦長プラ容器(2L弱)。
エアストーンは円柱型の小さなものを底の角に配置。
ダイソーのLEDデスクライト(照明部分取り外し可能)で照射。
【4回目まで生きた改良点】
グリーンウォーターで汽水作り。
ホワイトロック(クルミ程度の大きさ)を底部に沈める。
前回の底に溜まったコケ(藻)はそのまま残しておく。
LEDライトを容器底部の真横にくっつけて照射。(4回目から採用したかなり重要なポイント)
ブラインシュリンプは入れ過ぎない。(むしろ最初期は絶対入れない、というか途中から入れてない)
基本餌はダイソーのグッピーフレークを粉状にすり潰したものをごく僅か(指に付着したものを軽く落とす程度)だけ、3日に一度のペースで与える。(感覚的に藻による水質浄化の範疇を超えない量)しっかり底まで行くようにスポイトで水面を優しく撃って落とす。
無駄に容器内全体を攪拌させない。(脱皮中や直後の個体が死ぬ)
理屈としては、水槽の嫌われ者なイメージがあるコケ(藻、植物プランクトン)も水質浄化能力はある訳で、かといって汽水で扱える水草もウィローモスとか一部のものしか使えんし、なら手軽に増やせてそのままゾエアの餌にもなるそれを底面で増やしつつ水質浄化もしてもらおうって魂胆で、その為にしっかり強い光を底面に当ててコケをばんばん繁茂させつつ酸素もしっかり出してもろて、しかも走光性のあるゾエア達を食料があって酸素も豊富な底面へと誘導する事も出来るというお得な方法。
ホワイトロックはミネラル補給の保険とコケの繁茂の為のもの。(そして結果的には稚エビの隠れ家になった)
そんな4回目の挑戦を初めて1か月と少し⋯。

re. this blog post about the decline of perl being a culture problem, I'm a perl user since the 90s and things always felt pretty friendly to me. between the perl monks web site, the Tom Christensen books, CPAN, and other resources, I don't think I ever had a question go unanswered.
I think the more likely explanation is that the sed+awk+crack language design was hugely offputting to newcomers
