何度かここで書いてるけど、95年の震災時、長田区で在日朝鮮人の方々と日本人とで共同して炊き出しして、神戸は在日外国人が多い地域だから国籍関係なく助け合うのが当たり前、もうデマなんて無いし虐殺もない、ってインタビューで答えてたおばちゃんおっちゃんおったんよ。30年前は。

その30年後にまた大正時代の惨劇が起こるんではないかという恐怖に苛まれることになるなんて。
ありえんよ。

My mom met my incredibly anxious dog today… and it went wonderfully? Like I’ve never seen him this well-behaved and calm around any human other than me and my spouse? I’m super glad but like what the heck… he literally barks more at me when I come home than he did at her.

He is on sedatives, but even with them he usually still freaks out when new people enter the house.

The Universal Weight Subspace Hypothesis

We show that deep neural networks trained across diverse tasks exhibit remarkably similar low-dimensional parametric subspaces. We provide the first large-scale empirical evidence that demonstrates that neural networks systematically converge to shared spectral subspaces regardless of initialization, task, or domain. Through mode-wise spectral analysis of over 1100 models - including 500 Mistral-7B LoRAs, 500 Vision Transformers, and 50 LLaMA-8B models - we identify universal subspaces capturing majority variance in just a few principal directions. By applying spectral decomposition techniques to the weight matrices of various architectures trained on a wide range of tasks and datasets, we identify sparse, joint subspaces that are consistently exploited, within shared architectures across diverse tasks and datasets. Our findings offer new insights into the intrinsic organization of information within deep networks and raise important questions about the possibility of discovering these universal subspaces without the need for extensive data and computational resources. Furthermore, this inherent structure has significant implications for model reusability, multi-task learning, model merging, and the development of training and inference-efficient algorithms, potentially reducing the carbon footprint of large-scale neural models.

Is there any genuinely scary horror fiction? There's horror fiction that'll make me squirm for all kinds of reasons, but fear isn't one of them, unless it's fear that over the page I'll read something truly gross. But that's not what I think of as scary.

I don't think I've ever found written fiction creepy scary [1]. I might enjoy a creepy atmosphere, say, which is why I like Lovecraft, but I've never found his work even slightly scary.

[1] One exception: I was reading an old MR James (I think) story and something happened that's completely non-scary, except it was an almost trivial something from a recurring dream I'd had as a kid, and seeing it in writing did creep me out l, and I had to put the book down. But if I told you what it was you'd have no idea why I thought it was scary. (Like the terrifying shaky video scene in Signs that has no reason to be even slightly scary - but it didn't work for everyone.)
