What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

RE: mastodon.social/@Mastodon/1156

I’m proud to share my first blog as @Mastodon’s Community Director. Well the first one posted under my name at least 😉

Digital social networking is one of the most important threads in the fabric of our societies. Right now, we’re letting that thread be controlled by social media platforms that let advertisements for scams stay up because they’re profitable, and that use their algorithms to run human research experiments on us without our consent. That’s not the society I want.

“By making the news and truth contingent on advertising budgets we’ve created an environment where any narrative can win, as long as the storyteller is willing to pay. If we allow these conditions to continue, we will leave behind the voices that truly matter; the people and their public institutions. It is critical that those voices not be silenced forever. The promise of the is the promise of a better way forward: free from ads and manipulative algorithms, a place built by and for people like you, where is a right and not a privilege.”

In this thread, we asked folks to crowdsource a list of resources so you can find your local representative. Find them, contact them, and tell them this: if you care about a free and just future, and if you care about , you must leave X and join the fediverse.

* Mastodon Client

Also.... eine win-win-win-Situation?

My website is almost ported to , but there's one issue left that I can't resolve:

In , I have a shortcode for embedding mastodon feed of specified account. I figured I'd use liquid's {% render %} for it in 11ty instead of a shortcode, as it supports arguments and is basically what shortcode is.

Inside a zola shortcode, you can acces a variable called "nth", which will increment if you use the same shortcode multiple times on one page. It's value will be "1" in the first shortcode, "2" in the second and so on.

The library for embedding mastodon post requires a container with an id. Using this variable, I can just use

<div id="masto-feed-{{ nth }}"></div>

and I have every feed have it's own unique id.

How do I do that in 11ty? I don't necessarily need this numbering, although I imagine it being useful for other things as well. I just need every shortcode on one page to have it's own unique id. I have a feeling that it's probably something simple I missed in the documentation, but I haven't been able to find a solution anyway.

Stupidly small and simple, laughably fast and pretty fetch tool. Written in Rust for speed and ease of maintainability. Runs in a fraction of a millisecond and displays most of the nonsense you see on the internet communities or social media. Aims to replace fastfetch. Haha!
