What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

I got called out on Reddit for claiming to be bisexual but hanging out in lesbian channels and obviously having standards so high that men could never meet them and maybe I should stop pretending and holding on to heterosexuality and just admit I’m a lesbian.

Holding on to heterosexuality…?

Huh.

Porn is being injected into dozens of government websites across the country using malicious PDFs. A separate attack is hijacking govt websites to redirect to penis enlargement scams and animal vagina masturbators.

Cool stuff:

In the last century, I was the studio manager/producer and rep for the photo-illustrator who got me into this whole industry. Magazines would call with story ideas and he would come up with how to illustrate them; ad agencies would hire him to create images for their clients' marketing pieces. And he respected and encouraged my input, without ever pulling the "I am the Artiste!" ego crap.

We had a great working relationship.

The LLM programming criticism that lands weakest with me is "who's reading all of this code?" There is no polite way to say this: I could not have a lower opinion of the code I have seen humans contribute into production over the last two decades. It is a miracle that any software works and it cannot get worse. Developers, on average, can't think clearly, write software, communicate well, read code, or collaborate productively. We did not fall from Eden.

> "Israel’s" devastating genocidal war on Gaza has left the enclave buried under an unprecedented volume of rubble, with the UN warning that clearing the destruction, now estimated at 68 million tons, will take years, require vast resources, and depend heavily on Israeli political approval.

According to a new report highlighted by The Wall Street Journal, satellite assessments by the UN show that more than 123,000 buildings across the Gaza Strip have been destroyed and another 75,000 damaged, amounting to 81% of all structures.

The debris is not only enormous in quantity but also hazardous. UN agencies say it is mixed with thousands of pieces of unexploded Israeli ordnance left in homes, streets, and residential towers, an enduring threat that continues to injure civilians, particularly children.

Heavy machinery is only one part of the challenge. Contractors in Gaza charge roughly $23 per ton to remove debris, and the total reconstruction cost, estimated by the UN at $70 billion, remains unfunded

Pete Hegseth is urging members of the military to embrace GenAI.mil, a "secure generative AI platform for every member of the Department of War." I'm sure this will be fine.

"I expect every member of the Department to log in, learn it, and incorporate it into your workflows immediately. AI should be in your battle rhythm every single day. It should be your teammate. By mastering this tool, we will outpace our adversaries. The power is now in your hands."

I wonder who came up with their logo, which looks like a worm invading the Pentagon.

Men and Women of the Department of War,

| am pleased to introduce GenALmil, a secure generative Al platform for every member of the Department of War. It is live today and available on
the desktops of all military personnel, civilians, and contractors. With this launch we are taking a giant step toward mass Al adoption across the
Department. This tool marks the beginning of a new era where every member of our workforce can be more efficient and impactful

The first GenAl platform capability is Google Gemini, a frontier Al application that can help you write documents, ask questions, conduct deep
research, format content, and unlock new possibilities across your daily workflows. Gemini is the first of several enterprise Al applications that will
be rolled out on the GenAl platform. It is secure, certified up to Impact Level 5 (IL5), and is fully authorized to handle CUI.

Victory belongs to those who embrace real innovation. Rather than being reliant on the dusty, antiquated systems of a bygone era, we are thinking
ahead here in the Department of War. GenAl.mil is part of this monumental transformation. It removes wasted time and focuses more of our energy
into decisive results for the warfighter.

Access is straightforward. Navigate to GenAl.mil and you will be able to access the tool with your CAC. The platform is certified secure for
operational use on NIPR.

An image shown when one tries to visit genai.mil says: You have reached this page because yo uare not authorized to visit GenAI.mill from outside of DoW networks.

Remember how everyone got into baking their own bread during lockdowns? If you can feed yourself by turning flour, water, and yeast into bread like a grain alchemist, you can cultivate your own digital garden as well!

Fedora Magazine is pushing generative AI to ask how your system "feels." 🤮
One troubleshooting suggestion is using an APT command instead of, you know, DNF...

The author doesn't even call out the glaring mistake, only saying "Not too bad an analysis and set of debugging steps!"

This shouldn't have been published. This is embarrassing and infuriating on many levels. @fedoraFedora Project

Step 2 with a code box containing "sudo apt upgrade linux…" and description "Apply latest kernel with patched ath12k driver (or switch to 5.18+ if still on 5.15)."

This is a 1st post in a 4 part miniseries intended for real newbies.

And now excuse me while I go hide in a cave expecting irate replies from sysadmins about certain things I wrote 😅

Pro lifesaver tips:

Pair your smartphone with a keyboard and mouse if you haven't already.

I just broke again my iPhone's screen, hopefully, it was paired with it.

BUT iOS does not work well with pointing devices (of course!) but at least i'm able to unlock it.

And of course, on Android you can perfectly control your phone with keyboard and mouse or at least, you have adb.
