What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

there's a lot of great youtube content out there where they basically have to put those clickybaity youtubery thumbnails on. it's a shame since they're actually good people making good content. but i blocked them all. block block block. pretty much all the good channels? blocked. i'm missing out on so much. SO much great content. but at least i don't see the annoying thumbnails. unless it's someone new whose channel i haven't seen before. could be interesting. blocked!!

The @bonfire crowdfunder for their "Maintenance" theme (is that what corporate dev groups call a sprint?) has made it over the funding line a few days early, even.

I would encourage anyone interested in seeing the Social Web evolve to still consider a contribution, as any additional support I'm sure will help them roll into their next phase(s).

So excited for this, first time I've seen a tech crowdfunder with a responsible roadmap laid out from the get-go.

I just wrote the last words of the last chapter of Everything but the Code 🥲 It's been so much fun to write, and I've loved getting so many emails from folks saying it's helped them actually ship their work 🙇‍♂️ Should be out tomorrow, all being well! hackingwithswift.com/store/eve

What are folks using dead simple GIS work? I am brand new to GIS and am looking for affordable (sub $150/mo) tools that will allow me to upload data I get from city FOIA requests to create maps showing surveillance device placement, segregation info, 911 calls, etc. Bonus points if it has a free tier that I can mess with to learn before actually using it for my work.

Disney is investing $1B in OpenAI, following Warner Music and UMG settlements with Suno/Udio.

Copyright-owning mega-corporations are slowly making their peace with generative AI.

Some big lawsuits (e.g., NYT) are still pending, but the emerging rulebook appears to be a toleration for training, and tightening control of outputs.

RE: tombraidersocial.com/@tombraid

Not gonna lie, I'll watch the show just for Sigourney.

Been a fan of Phoebe's for years, but I simply do not like Turner as a pick for Lara Croft. Don't get me wrong, she's a good actress, but she doesn't give 'Lara' to me at all.

I'll try to have no expectations and enjoy the show when it comes out..
