구글 TPU의 설계 방향과 강점, 구현 과정을 잘 요약한 글.
결국 정해진 연산을 고속으로 실행하기 위해 프로세서의 복잡도를 제거하고 이를 모두 컴파일러로 처리하는 시스템. 타사는 이 TPU를 도입하기 쉽지 않은데, 핵심 기술인 컴파일러를 구글에 의존해야 하기 때문이다. 전체 시스템의 각 부분을 자체 개발, 운용하는 구글이기에 가능했던 방향. 이거 따라할 수 있는 회사는 IBM 정도겠군. IBM도 내부 개발 역량을 많이 줄인 상태라 쉽지 않을 듯.
VLIW라기 보다는 EPIC 사상?은 아직 현역이다. 😊 범용으로는 돌아오지 못하겠지만.
