The thing this reply guy doesn’t get, the thing that’s so crucial to this moment, is that being correct about the law counts for absolute diddly shit in the moment. The law is slow. The law comes later…if ever. With these people on our streets right now, the only thing that matters in the moment is what people believe: what they believe the law is, what they believe is safe, what they believe they can get away with, what they believe they are capable of doing.

The law is slow. The law catches up later. Belief is •now•.

I'd like to say I didn't spend 10+ minutes taking this machine apart, swapping out cables, checking BIOS settings, etc... to figure out why only one of the LEDs was on, only to realize “hey is that a device power button”, but I can’t.

📣 We're organizing PaPoC 2026, the meeting place of choice for folks studying consistency for distributed data! papoc-workshop.github.io/2026/

I've been on the PaPoC PC a few times, and I like this community a lot. I'm happy to have the chance to organize it this year. We've put together a great program committee of experts, and we're excited to hear about what you're working on.

Submit your short paper, full paper, or lightning talk abstract by January 23!

RE: infosec.exchange/@0xabad1dea/1

some advice I've given people who have trouble with this that's worked in numerous cases?

when you're coming up to bedtime, take a moment to sit and intentionally ask yourself, "what do I need before I can sleep?"

it may be something trivial, like a glass of water; it may be something like checking that the door's locked, maybe something like needing to close some browser tabs, could be any number of things.

doing that thing, in my (and other peoples') experience makes it -much- easier to actually sleep, and tends to make sleep more restful.

RE: hci.social/@fasterandworse/115

Firefox's killer feature is that it's not chromium. That's the pull. Nothing to do with tab grouping or UI design.

When your userbase is made of people who don't want bullshit, you are taking a risk with every new feature, especially the ultimate bullshit feature of AI

Annual New Year's Resolution advice from your local internet auntie who successfully turned around a lot of problems:

That list of fourteen resolutions you have? To stop forgetting to brush your teeth, to lose weight, to stay atop your homework? Which ONE SINGLE CHANGE would have the most immediate, day-to-day effect on your mental well-being? What would give you more spoons to tackle the rest?

ONE RESOLUTION AT A TIME. If you try to change fourteen things about your life at once, you'll get overwhelmed and give up within a matter of days and convince yourself you're not strong enough to change. But you are; the trick is to change ONE THING AT A TIME and focus on it until it's become easy.

If you have something sleep-related on the list... you should probably start there. Sabotaging yourself by staying up late is an extremely common problem among the type of person likely to be reading this post. Learning to Stop Doing That will make sorting out the rest of your life magically so much easier.

> Enzor-DeMeo spent 2025 racing to make Firefox a more compelling product, adding things like tab groups, while also trying to figure out how the browser should integrate with AI.

It's a web browser! It doesn't have to be compelling! It's for accessing compelling stuff!

We noticed a rising interest regarding the use of AI in browsers. To be clear about our position on this: Zen currently is disabling all AI features included in Firefox and will continue to do so.

So where is the public and binding social contract where you sign to declare that you

1. do not and will never use "AI",
2. will absolutely, socially, professionally, and by association, shun anyone who uses "AI",
3. will 100% support, encourage and laugh at the material destruction of data centres running "AI", and
4. will in any other way bring about the end of "AI" and all profit made from it

because I am positively ready to sign up right now end this fucking charade joke's over plz
