In 1998, Congress committed an act of mass cultural erasure, extending copyright by 20 years, including for existing works (including ones that were already in the public domain), and for 20 years, virtually *nothing* entered the US public domain.

I'm thinking of uninstalling the excellent Plugin and defederating my sites from the . For technical reasons only. CPU goes through the roof when new posts are boosted for the first time, causing 508 errors.

Does anyone else suffer from this problem and have any suggestions to lighten the load?

Maybe I’m overreacting and should just live with the minute or two of daily downtime?

I have Litespeed cache installed.

[EDIT] fixed and out on all the mirrors! Thanks for your patience!

The /latest/ packages repo, for amd64 FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE, has invalid metadata.

TLDR if you see this error during `pkg update -r FreeBSD-ports`

pkg: sqlite error while executing grmbl in file update.c:171: NOT NULL constraint failed: packages.path

Then go for a walk/pizza/fresh air, and check again when you're back.

Baptiste & Antoine have fixed it in the main package builder, and it's trickling out to mirrors atm.

Technical details in github.com/freebsd/pkg/issues/

I'll also update this toot once it's sorted!

For whatever reason, Github banned my IP for one hour and I need to see what my students have been doing.

They must contribute to the opensource project of their choice and 99% of them end up on Github

And, yes, I have a Github account even if I would like to get rid of it. But I can’t grade my students.

Monopolies are bad. You think that it happens to other? It will hurt you deeply, sooner or later. It will hit you when you least expect it.

the irony of Sentry (a crash reporting framework) sending us a message about a critical crash, which was caused by a bug in the latest version of Sentry. So sick of *paid* dependencies introducing massive bugs (Sentry, Superwall, RevenueCat), and then quietly fixing them in point releases without acknowledging the huge impact they have.

Taper #15 is out. Each issue contains tiny computational poems centered around a theme—in this case, the numerology of 15, the idea of midpoints and intersections, and other associations with the number 15. The complete code of the poem must be under 2Kb, with no dependencies. Tiny, indeed!

One of my pieces in the issue is an interactive erasure of Shakespeare's Sonnet 15, in which only half the poem can ever be visible at once. Every word you click to reveal erases a word somewhere else. Likewise, every word you click to hide reveals another word. At any given time, exactly half of the original sonnet is visible.
