What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

@alterelefantFrank Heijkamp For me, it has gone completely downhill since 2019. It was almost perfect then. I remember thinking "Wow! This is so good!" then it just became bad the next update, and worse after that. How is this happening? Why make something perfect worse? Like, it's fine to stop updating a feature if it's at max perfect, just don't touch it anymore.

@Em0nM4stodonEm :official_verified: I hear you. I have exactly the same experience. About six years ago autocorrect on Android was amazing, it worked really well. After the following update by Google it became absolutely rubbish and I have never managed to get it exactly back to where it was. At the moment it is pretty close but my fear is that everything will be gone again after the next update.

In a discussion about ‘what did you have to learn in order to live abroad’ (for Singaporeans), the most popular response was ‘that other countries don’t have restaurants with good and cheap food for 20 hours a day. And you gotta learn to cook’

LOL true

DEI losing ground as White men make gains in the boardroom~
"Following the national uprising over the murder of George Floyd, corporations sought out more women and people of color to diversify their boards of directors.

For a time, the once ironclad dominance of men – especially White men – in the corporate boardroom appeared to be slipping. Over the past five years, racial and ethnic representation rose 20% and female representation 18% in companies included in the Russell 3000 index, according to data and analytics firm ISS-Corporate."
And yet... "White men urged to file discrimination claims in anti-DEI escalation"
I hope that anyone filing such a claim realizes what a whiney little punk they are if they do.

The “Have Women Ruined the Workplace” guy now says young, white men in America have gone Nazi because…DEI.

They’re never responsible for their own warped perspectives and actions. It’s always someone else’s fault.

At what point do Alt-Right apologists who excuse social scapegoating become Alt-Right themselves?

I’m not going to link here, but the headline and graphic are instructive.

NYT opinion headline: There’s a simpler explanation for the rightward shift of young men.” Beneath the text there is a white circle/arrow symbol for “male” with a circle and slash superimposed in red.
