Does anyone have experience migrating entire Mastodon instances from one domain to another?

Looking for advice on migrating user accounts and I'm wondering if I just set the new instance up in parallel, close registration and hand over invite codes... or is there a better way?

(Asking as an admin.)

Do you have back pain or problems? If you have had to change your life, eg. avoid doing something, or stay home due to your back or if it hurts often that's "having back problems"

If you are taller than 164cm (5' 4.5") you are "tall." (In this formulation more men are tall than women, I'm interested in absolute height here so not breaking it down by gender. Data are bimodal but I don't think it matters much.)

Here is what frustrates me most about the Python package ecosystem. Let's say that I have a tool written in Python. And one day, where it used to work, it has stopped working. A package is failing to find another package. I am not doing "development" so I don't have a principled package setup. I just have a python script on my hard drive.

I need to install a package.

- Which python installation do I have to install the package into?

- Do I use pip, pipx, or something else?

Detective work :(

one of the key ideas of a democracy is that protest and demonstrations important

1. to bring to the attention of government issues it might not be aware of, or care sufficiently about

2. for some of that activity to result in positive change, even if it is small and incremental

this is a pressure-release valve, a method of organic self-correction

by suppressing this, government are NOT becoming more stable, they are becoming less stable, as pressure and resentment and distrust builds to eventually explode in revolution.

this is basic politics theory, and I am no expert

these governments, including the UK, are foolish if they think banning speech and protests is making our country safer and more stable

(I first learned about this idea very late in life, from NN Taleb's anti-fragile concept)

Excerpt from a book I'm reading, Slow Poison, by Mahmood Mamdani, father of Zorhan Mamdani.

"FBI agents knocked on
my door...they asked what I thought of Marx. I said I had
never met him. Not surprisingly, this Ugandan Muyindi had never heard of Karl
Marx. “He’s dead.”

I said, “I'm sorry, what happened?”

“No, he died long ago.”

I wondered why, then, the question. “Why, then, are you asking me?”
Later, I would remind myself: the FBI introduced me to Karl Marx! "

Roughly a month after returning from Alabama, two FBI agents knocked on
my door, wearing beige raincoats, badges in hand. The FBI—I was thrilled. Just
like on television, I thought.

After a few preliminaries, they asked what I thought of Marx.

They said that Marx believed that the money of rich people should be taken
away and distributed to poor people.

I said it sounded like a fine idea!

At that point, they seemed to decide there was little point in continuing the
conversation, and they left. That, however, was not the end of the story. I went
to the library to look up Marx. Later, I would remind myself: the FBI intro-
duced me to Karl Marx! This was 1965. It would mark my entry point into the
civil rights movement. There was a student organization at the university called

@gnome I've been using GNOME since pre-1.0 days (with a brief swap to KDE when 3 was initially released), but once extensions fixed the biggest gaps (and KDE 4 dropped...) I've been back and been happy. I do wish that there was a bit more care given to the extension environment as they are *needed* to make GNOME truely functional, IMHO. But with them, it's the best environment available <full stop/>.
