Confession: Ketzeleh was chewing on the foil we put under the chanukiyot. Who does something like that?? She does, apparently. So my father got rid of the foil and last night I was too tired to get more before we lit the candles, and I knowingly let a bunch of wax melt onto the wooden top of a record player.

Any suggestions for removing wax from finished wood?

@evanEvan Prodromou @mariusormarius Evan, politely, keeping this draft FEP up is doing the community a great miss-service with how it completely butchers client registration and the security issues it has. It really should be withdrawn and revised down to just declaring that we use standard OAuth 2 discovery mechanisms, don't do the Actor mess and instead use CIMDs which are in the OAuth WG standards track (they're adopted by the OAuth WG and will likely become an RFC)

갈등의 원인은 기술이 아니라 상도덕이라는 점에서 블록체인(이라 쓰고 코인이라 읽는 그것)-메타버스(이라 쓰고 게임 아닌 척 하는 MMO라 읽는 그것) 광풍의 연장선처럼 느껴진다.

물론 저 둘과는 달리 AI는 유효성을 부정하기 어렵지만, 애초에 쟁점은 학습 소스 제공자들에게 보상이 돌아가지 않는 구조와 기술 핑계로 사람 자르는 빈카운터들에게서 비롯된 바, 도저히 기쁘게 활용할 수가 없다.

I keep seeing people share stories about how Google "killed" the Dreamcast browser and other older browsers, but as far as I can tell it's not true. Google killed *Google search* on older devices, not the whole web browser. Everyone's spreading confused articles that misread the actual source of info.

In the previous post, we looked at Attention – a ubiquitous method in modern deep learning models. Attention is a concept that helped improve the performance of neural machine translation applications. In this post, we will look at The Transformer – a model that uses attention to boost the speed with which these models can be trained. The Transformer outperforms the Google Neural Machine Translation model in specific tasks. The biggest benefit, however, comes from how The Transformer lends itself to parallelization. It is in fact Google Cloud’s recommendation to use The Transformer as a reference model to use their Cloud TPU offering. So let’s try to break the model apart and look at how it functions. The Transformer was proposed in the paper Attention is All You Need. A TensorFlow implementation of it is available as a part of the Tensor2Tensor package. Harvard’s NLP group created a guide annotating the paper with PyTorch implementation. In this post, we will attempt to oversimplify things a bit and introduce the concepts one by one to hopefully make it easier to understand to people without in-depth knowledge of the subject matter. 2025 Update: We’ve built a free short course that brings the contents of this post up-to-date with animations: A High-Level Look Let’s begin by looking at the model as a single black box. In a machine translation application, it would take a sentence in one language, and output its translation in another.

In a parting shot before her retirement, the European Commission’s top science diplomat has castigated the US for destroying its reputation as a global scientific leader. Signe Ratso, who is in charge of negotiating global access to the EU’s €93.5 billion Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, said on December 17 that the US was “still our most important research partner” but was “currently demolishing its scientific leadership with a wrecking ball.”

Wow, got really burned by Apple’s terrible documentation. The App Attest API exists on macOS, but DCAppAttestService.isSupported just returns false with no indication why. I thought I had misconfigured something.

The only hint that App Attest is not actually supported on macOS is that there is no App Attest capability entitlement when you click around in Xcode for macOS, only for other platforms.
