What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

The intersection of puritanism & creates an incredibly insidious, toxic form of .

Push through the pain. Work through your illness. Keep going through your burnout.

Puritanism tells you that this is virtuous, and makes you a good person. Capitalism requires overwork for your survival.

Pair this with a pandemic, and you've got a nasty escalation of eugenics.

Everything is like this now. On every subject, the only acceptable opinion is that things are the worst they’ve ever been, and there’s no room for anyone to acknowledge anything good without to-be-sure caveats about other things that are bad

PSA: posts you see on your feed, especially from people you DON'T KNOW, are not tailored for your eyes only and don't have to be perfect for you! If someone is soliciting random opinions (i.e. survey, etc.) they will explicitly state this!

Some people (not just OnHere, but ABSOLUTELY OnHere) think everyone on their feed is shouting into their door specifically. No!! Your feed is YOU walking around looking into OTHER people's lives and the shitty way you treat them is YOUR responsibility!

a hallmark movie where a high powered lawyer goes back to her home town for Christmas and meets a shitposter down on his luck but he teaches her about whimsy and they make sweet love and they start a bakery creating cakes with cute shitposts on them

This is a CDE on Mageia 9. It took me several hours and consultations with friendly people on Mageia forums to make it work.
CDE is very archaic so I had to rebuild the whole Motif library reverting some recent patches before compiling CDE itself. My tiny HP Stream 14 laptop with Intel N3060 CPU had a hard time building this monstrosity.
Now the hardest part comes: figuring out why I did this and what do I actually do with it.

The juxtaposition of my social circle of peers who are excited that AI is finally almost behind us because a snake oil bubble is about to pop, and my own experience that everything is finally all clicking and I am addicted to doing the best work of my life faster than I ever thought possible is challenging!

I don't know if people are aware of this Firefox addon that brings discoverability for personal websites that have identity confirmation links to Mastodon profiles: StreetPass for Mastodon.

It's pretty good, it allowed me to find quite a number of people based on incidentally reading their blogs.
