Hi guys, just wanted to take a minute to wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year, most of all good health! These days people don't spend much time or thought on some personal words to their friends and family, they just copy and paste some random message and send it on. So I just want to thank you and wish you a happy and fulfilling 2018 - you’re the best gymnastics group anyone could ask for. Helen x

"...to de-instrumentalize our understandings of one another and to assume a position of greater humility and responsibility, together. Real belief in collective knowledge may also suggest that caring for our own knowledge formation in social systems is a way of caring for the system as a whole." wrecka.ge/landslide-a-ghost-st

i think systems literacy is one of the most undervalued, and because of that untaught, things in the american information environment. every day there's a flood of new events, new information, new interpretations. if you don't have a model for how the systems underlying society work then every new bit of info emerges spontaneously, causelessly, quickly disappears into void. the models of systems each of us carries through life are brittle and wobbly but without even that we're truly lost.

PowerLattice is miniaturizing and repackaging high-voltage regulators to a 50 percent reduction in power consumption. “The closer you get to the processor, the less distance that the high current has to travel, and thus we can reduce the power loss.” spectrum.ieee.org/voltage-regu

My brain has lately been on a roll of forming malapropisms based on "like shooting fish in a barrel":

- There's plenty more fish in the barrel
- One bad fish spoils the barrel
- You can lead a fish to water but you can't make it barrel
- It's all fish under the barrel now

Is anyone interested in a bunch of XL extra long cotton stretch t-shirts, mostly black: strauss.com/de/de/arbeitsshirt
I lost a ton of weight and don't need them any more.

I have maybe 30 of them. Some older, some newer, all in perfect to good condition and freshly washed. I could bring a bunch to . For free or just donate something to a good cause.

Only condition is that you should put them to good and sensible use, i.e. wear them.

Edit: XL, sorry!

I keep getting overwhelmed by my new camera. I have no idea what most of the settings mean, let alone how to use them.

Also, it’s not often someone’s bought me something I’ve wanted for a long time, so I feel worried that if I’m no good or don’t make the most of it then I’m a terrible person.

So I’m feeling grateful and seen and loved but also guilty. I shouldn’t have such a nice gift if I can’t already use it perfectly.
What a daft thing to think.

holiday music

I don't celebrate holidays. ∃ much work to do for non-profit charities (for fundraising alone) in Dec. Working on holidays is standard practice for me since 2001.

My 17-year-younger cousin told me: 1ˢᵗ he saw SQL was at 12 years old & watched me all Christmas day mucking w/ 's SQL donor database in 2002.

*But*, my mom, who died ≈ 10 yrs ago, loved Christmas & she hated that I worked every Christmas. So, in her memory, I listen to Christmas music all day today while working.

In my region, not far from here, there's an extreme weather alert. Three months' worth of rain and wind are hitting in just 24 hours, and many rivers are on the brink of flooding. People are being evacuated and will have to sleep away from home, fearing that something serious might happen to their houses. My area is safe, but my thoughts tonight are with those poor people
