What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

Just checking, thereโ€™s *no way* to turn off posts from accounts you donโ€™t follow on Instagram, right? Like, my entire Home tab only contains posts from accounts I donโ€™t follow.

I donโ€™t like this app, but it is often the *only* place that local businesses here post things like operating hours. I need to check it for that sort of stuff, and every time, I am instantly distracted and waste 20 minutes, close the app, all before I remember what I went in there for. Itโ€™s absolutely awful for me.

@micr0Micr0byte It depends. On the web an alt text must be concise. Everything that is important, makes sense, is mentioned somewhere in the text, is to be conveyed. but conciseness is first.
Here on social networks, I'd say, completeness is the first and even more important than conciseness. For instance, if you post a meme, describe it even if it's super lengthy. Like: "Three panels from left to right, on the first panel there is a man..." and on and on you go. It's important because *the image* is the unique thing you share, I have to laugh, to think, to be angry or emotional about *the image* itself, without any context basically.
Ask further questions, I'm glad to answer everything.

I will never stop being upset about the thing where it is somehow possible for an Android app to send you an SMS message and then Android just tells it the SMS message arrived without me clicking an OK or granting it a permission for this

It's been a big year at Signal. Thanks to you, more & more people are speaking privately and freely. Thanks to you, we hit the top of app stores in multiple countries & served as critical global comms infrastructure. It's an honor to build Signal for you, with your support. ๐Ÿฉต

Numbers and algorithms are so messed up for my brain.
I have a YouTube channel with 97K subscribers and if I publish a video that does below 1K it feels like a failure, even tho I get dozens of positive comments, I'm proud of the video, and I had fun during the time I spent making it.
Fuck numbers and algorithms, dude.
I need to go back to how I was pre-internet, just making things for my own pleasure, and being happy if only a handful of people like it

Wow, DuckDB v1.5 is going to be huge for geospatial people. It seems it got the ability to handle CRS like SedonaDB does. I didn't expect this would happen this early!

github.com/duckdb/duckdb/pull/

(Also, did you notice this pull request is on the DuckDB's main repo instead of duckdb/duckdb-spatial?)

Please do not ask me why I need to do this, but: is there any way to filter an HDMI connection such that the TV does not believe that an attached soundbar is ARC capable? (The TV, annoyingly, is aware that it's ARC capable even if it's plugged into a non-ARC HDMI port and complains that it's in the wrong port)

Note: I do *not* want to block CEC

@Vivaldi is available in a lot of cars. Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, Renault, Audi, Volvo, Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, Geely, Link & Co, Porsche, just to name a few. Sometimes it is pre-installed, but in most cases it is a download.

If you have a new car running Android Automotive, please check if Vivaldi is available in the play store, install it and share a screenshot with me, with the brand and vehicle name.
