Hegseth, Trump, and their cultists will brush it off.

Meanwhile an entire neighbourhood will swear to God that they will avenge her murder.

“We” should have no concerns with Americans hanging out investigating business deals from the spoils, I’m sure. Simple stuff. In and out. Ask Putin how that’s going.

Black Gold by Bob Wyss, 2025

The Rise, Reign and Fall of American Coal

Coal's central role in America's history and its ongoing threats in the climate crisis.

For decades coal has been crucial to America's culture, society, and environment, an essential ingredient in driving out winter's cold, cooking meals, and lighting the dark. In the coalfields and beyond, Bob Wyss describes how this magical elixir sparked the Industrial Revolution...

powered railroads, and built urban skylines, while providing home comforts for families.
Coal's history and heritage are fundamental to understanding its legacy of threats to America's well-being. As industry developed so did clashes between powerful tycoons, coal miners, and innocent families. Exploitation and avarice led to victimization, deadly violence, and ultimately the American labor movement. More recently coal has endangered American lives and safety, brought on by two centuries of carbon combustion, and here the threat remains unresolved. This is coal's most enduring legacy.

My last for the algorithm before I deleted IG last weekend. Goodbye after 12 yrs + 50k followers 👋🏾 I couldn’t have done it if I hadn’t gained some traction here, so thank you for following.

I grew up in and organizing, so moving to and social media feels full circle. I want my to be part of a future of thought that represents progress and liberation.

“In the past decades, interventions were justified under slogans such as democracy and human rights. Today, they openly say the issue is Venezuela’s oil.”

“Claims that another country can run Venezuela are unacceptable to any nation, including the Venezuelan people, and reflect a return to colonial-era thinking.”

This is a clear case of US exceptionalism towards international law, of which there is a long history. It reflects a US view that its own laws prevail over all other law. According to the US, international law should not unduly limit its ability to advance its national interests.

It’s also based on an assumption that any international opprobium it may encounter can be managed or safely ignored.

US allies and partners need to be very aware of the ramifications of this exceptional US law enforcement practice.

If, down the line, the US military encounters a more robust response than it did in Venezuela, it could trigger NATO treaty obligations for European countries and Canada, and ANZUS treaty obligations for Australia.

So, if the US continues down this road, there’s every chance the consequences of its interventionism could be felt by many around the world.

Yearly update on my verifiable brute force strength gist.

- Bitcoin mining is still just shy of exhausting 95 bits annually.
- Distributed.net's RC5-72 project is still just shy of exhausting 65 bits annually.

We're still 10+ billion years out for completely exhausting every possible key in a 128-bit key space with the current Bitcoin mining power.

Something that's been bugging me for the past couple of years was that the search bar wasn't returning the "most accurate" result first.

Not being an expert, I got the query syntax tweaked to boost a better match on explicit name.

Search for `psycopg`, `boto3`, and more!

Newsrooms: We've made a lot of changes to our guide to confidential tip pages. The biggest change — informed by our research into common channels — is that we've actually cut WhatsApp from the list and added web forms. Check it out. freedom.press/digisec/blog/sec

In light of convos about Mastodon's reply-guy problem, here's your periodic reminder that code was written in **2022** to make blocking someone hide their reply to your post, but still hasn't been shipped.

This simple fix to make toxic replies less harmful has now been ignored by the Mastodon team for 40% of Mastodon's existence.

마두로가 누구인지도 잘 모르겠지만, 미국은 어떤 명분으로 다른 나라의 주권을 침해하지? 이걸 미국 시민들은 박수치고 보고 있다는 말인가? 이해할 수 없는 일이네.
