The modern notion of a website with user accounts stems from like 2000 and many of those websites are still in use. Over the course of 25 years, some number of people die. That is a thing that occurs. Websites do not understand death. Websites are a four year old child and they believe this user just hasn't signed on in awhile, and will someday come back. Websites are constantly attempting to involve dead people in activities. At a certain point, four-year-old behavior stops feeling cute.

there’s nothing being “squeezed” here, it’s just a model that lets you write backend in parallel with frontend and componentize related pieces together. what this enables is parallel evolution where each piece of backend is 1:1 fine tuned towards needs of “its” piece of frontend.

so after being bedridden for 16months due to a hernia, I've finally got my surgery!
now I'm bedridden for recovery, fun!

I'm still about 1400$ away from paying my electricity bill, so if you've got a couple dollars, it'd help me get through this last stretch. Thanks so much!

and my patreon is at patreon.com/c/foone , if you'd like to set up a monthly donation. Thanks!

@zkatkat @joepie91Sven Slootweg ("still kinky and horny anyway") right now, half* the hacker circles are explicitly in favor of OSS being used by the MIC to the point where talks about Kubernetes on a [vehicle]** is considered normal or actively desirable. this is a problem! until we can change that norm, i don't think that enforcing it will result in any meaningful difference

* not literally half. a very significant amount
** there's apparently quite a few of these deployments. i think the talk i remembered was by SonarQube...

It is absolutely *wild* to me that media organizations still do not put RSS/Atom :rss: feed info front-and-center on their websites.

One needs to dive into HTML code or use external tools to discover their feeds.

It is wild because this is one of the easiest, least-effort ways to reach their audience. Encouraging RSS/Atom use is a phenomenal way of becoming less reliant on gatekeepers like huge social media platforms.

Come on! :angrycat:

Trump: “I am pleased to announce that the Interim Authorities in Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 MILLION Barrels of High Quality, Sanctioned Oil, to the United States of America. This Oil will be sold at its Market Price, and that money will be controlled by me, as President of the United States of America, to ensure it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States!”

I recently got a new Thinkpad P14S. It is a nice computer for sure, but I think it is time to focus on the software side as well. Computers come with software and the software experience matters!

Some things I think should be covered in a review:

1. What OS does the machine come with? Having a choice would be nice, such as a Windows & Linux choice. Even better if you can test both before making a choice.

2. What software does the machine come with, both good and bad. If the machine comes with useful software, then that is great! Does it offer a choice of browsers?

3. Is it possible to get rid of all the bad stuff and how long does it take?

4. Does the machine allow local accounts? Does it force or trick you into using online services?

5. Does the machine have opt-in or opt-out of AI or does it force feed it?

6. Does the machine make it easy to switch OS after the fact?

I am sure I am not the only one that cares about stuff like this. When you buy a piece of hardware, it is to run software and making it easy to run the software you want should be what hardware makes should focus on, in addition to building great hardware.
