i wrote a relatively accessible intro here with some technical details closer to the end. there's an active community of developers experimenting with atproto here, and it's pretty modular (you can create your own custom feeds, or even custom data formats, new apps aggregating everything etc)

If you have an account with the Apple App Store, you can report a problem with an app even if you do not have it installed.
1. Go to App Store.
2. Open link for downloading X (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/x/id333903271)
3. Scroll down to section on “Information”
4. Look for and click blue link for “Report a Problem”.

I don't think vendoring code is inherently bad, per se, but I do find it more emotionally satisfying to file issues and feature requests upstream and work with other developers on making things better for everyone.
In light of the murder by ICE, this article shows people banding together to stop ICE.
The town's folk even move against ICE after this. The people are trained and coordinated. Look in your local town and city for similar and join them.
You don't have to figure out what to do. You don't have to build something from nothing. Groups and training are already in place. You just need to join.

We unit test code's correctness—so why not unit test performance as well?

When I was in college, I accidentally bought the a printed copy of the C# language *reference* instead of a book about how to learn C#. The bookstore didn't take refunds, and I didn't have enough money to go back and buy the right book, so I taught myself C# from the EBNF.
I don't recommend this approach, it is not a good approach.
