@zkatkat Community Software Guild? Would need representation across different countries, but a central place online?

Controlling access to source would be required if licenses are to no longer be leaned on so heavily, which may require an invite only approach initially?

Lots of questions but like the direction.

Fun With 3D (8 Photos)

STREET ART UTOPIA @streetartutopia@streetartutopia.com

Your brain is about to play tricks on you. These 8 artworks prove that sometimes, a flat wall is just a suggestion. Weโ€™ve all walked past a boring brick building, but these creative geniuses see something entirely different. Using the magic of anamorphic perspective, theyโ€™ve turned gray concrete into giant creatures, cozy kittens, and mind-bending architectural illusions. Prepare to do a double-take at these 8 incredible 3D masterpieces. More: (Lร„GG IN Lร„NK TILL LIKNANDE INLร„GG [โ€ฆ]

from what i gather a lot of time on the app team in 2025 went towards the age gating stuff. and i guess backend folks were more busy with the protocol stuff? it's good progress but the app now feels frozen with half-baked 1.0s of novel features

I went to lunch today and realized I left my phone in my office. I almost went back for it but decided, nah. Itโ€™ll be ok.

I spent an entire hour without my phone. It was glorious. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

No, the irony of me tooting about not using my phone from my phone is not lost on me ๐Ÿคฃ

EU is calling for comments on open source strategies. MAKE YOURSELF HEARD!

Even non-EU citizens have a voice here.

NOW is a time to stand up and stand out! YOU want to help the Fediverse? Here's just one way today that YOU can REALLY make a difference:

The European Open Digital Ecosystem Strategy will set out:

  • a strategic approach to the open source sector in the EU that addresses the importance of open source as a crucial contribution to EU technological sovereignty, security and competitiveness
  • a strategic and operational framework to strengthen the use, development and reuse of open digital assets within the Commission, building on the results achieved under the 2020-2023 Commission Open Source Software Strategy.

@zkatkat thanks for this. re: your 3rd para, sometimes i think about the kinds of differences of opinion that are considered consequential, that have become major rifts in some cases, in typical FOSS cultures. eg the stereotypes about bikeshedding etc. and i think for us to act as one big faction there needs to be a shift on the basics of what's considered a consequential disagreement - as you say, anything that "threatens the good of what we have built together". the rest is largely just details.

seriously fucked up shit wrt ice murder and ai

That Twitter is, as a company, perfectly fine with its site pumping out what amounts to revenge porn of ICE's recent victim, really underscores something that I think gets missed in a lot of AI discussions.

Artists can say no. If you ask an artist to collage up CSAM, they can say no. If you ask an artist to make fascist propaganda, they can say no. If you ask an artist to make abuse material degrading murder victims, they can say no.
