This goes for all politicians. If you are US, call your congresspeople, call your senators. If you are MN, call the governor and the AG. Remember that the "political capital" that politicians have is the support they have from their constituents. They use these calls as evidence in the arguments of what actions their colleagues should take.

I •think• the most important people for MN residents to call right now are MN Gov Walz and MN AG Ellison. Those numbers again:

Gov: ‭(651) 201-3400‬
AG: ‭(651) 296-3353‬

My points when I call:

- We don’t trust Trump’s FBI
- We want an independent MN-based investigation of the killing of Good
- Thank you for steps you’re already taking in this direction
- Do more, try harder
- Do so in outright defiance of the FBI if necessary

(To be clear, this is all just from Paul; if I get better guidance from more informed folks, I will share/update.)

@zkatkat the ganeti project has been closely scrutinizing some LLM generated code they had generated since nobody on the current team understands Haskell. They adopted an LLM policy that explains that where LLM is used, they will disclose it. Seems like a best case scenario to me.

@ryancheleyThe B is Silent @lorenipsumLoren

I'm currently surrounded by billboards from Odoo. Odoo is an open-source ERP built with Python. I live in the 3rd most populous county in the world's 3rd most populous country. This makes me think a few things:
1. They have money.
2. They got this money from a thing built in Python that they sell to businesses.
3. The PSF and DSF should be getting sponsorship money from this company.

However, I'm not the person to pursue this, so I'm passing the info on to you.

When writing a derive proc_macro and need to use it inside the crate that implements the type to be derived. Consider this abomination: `extern crate self as my_crate_name;` inside the crate defining the type. This way you can have an absolute reference to the type in the generated code and it will work inside and outside of your crate in question. I am sure there is a good reason rust does not provide the alias by default, but still i find it a bit funny I have to add this. 🤷

Re “apply the pressure anyway:” that’s advice I got from…Keith Ellison.

I was part of a citizen group pressuring him to vote for the ACA when he was in the House. He met with us, and gave us an impassioned speech about universal care and how the ACA was a good first step but insufficient, relating it to the less-remembered civil rights acts of the 1950s that laid the groundwork for the big one in 1964.

Somebody from the group finally asked him, “Why are we meeting with you? You’re already convinced!”

He replied (paraphrasing here): “I •need• your pressure. I need it even if I already agree. If you’re pressuring me, then I can get on the floor of the House and say ‘My constituents are beating down the doors of my office! This has tremendous support!’ I can tell my colleagues in private about how agitated voters are. If you apply pressure, I can pass that pressure forward. I need you to do it! •That• is why you’re meeting with me.”

And now Keith Ellison is MN Attorney General. He’s already started doing the right thing. Follow his advice, and apply that pressure!

NetBlocks, an organization that monitors internet status in various parts of the world, wrote in a recent update about the internet situation in Iran:
"It has now been 24 hours since the nationwide internet shutdown in Iran, and connectivity has dropped to about 1% of normal levels. This ongoing digital blackout violates the fundamental rights and freedoms of Iranian citizens and causes the government's violence to remain hidden."
