Old friends left behind in 2025: “You just don’t understand how hard it would be for me emotionally to not have the deathly hollows as my lock screen”

New friends taking into 2026: “When I was in Texas I went in the opposite gender bathrooms to protest and then I visited the Alamo so I could spit on racist colonizer slave owner graves”

As promised, the pics! :flan_cheer: :flan_cat:

So, we started our workout regimen this week, first workout week of 2026. A stayed home to start on pilates. Seems as though Da Fonz was up for his New Year's resolution to lose weight and took over A's exercise mat to join in the pilates session. 🥵

Needless to say, his resolution lasted as long as his food lasts on his bowl. :flan_tired::flan_XD:

Picture of our entertainment furniture with the TV overhead showing a pilates video. Fonzie, a grey and white Japanese bobtail cat, is laying on A's pink exercise mat like he wants someone to paint him like those French girls, waiting to get started with the pilates session.Picture of Fonzie, a grey and white Japanese bobtail cat, laying on A's pink exercise mat like he wants someone to paint him like those French girls, waiting to get started with the pilates session. His right rear leg is stretched out like he's about to start on some leg exercises.Picture of Fonzie, a grey and white Japanese bobtail cat, laying on A's pink exercise mat, but now looking like he's passed out from only a few reps.

The thing that always surprises me about people I know (off-Fedi) in the SF area who obsess over what private preschool their kids get into. Probably elsewhere too, but they are the ones who talk about it.

"We're moving into this very expensive neighbourhood to be in the catchment area for these 3 top-notch schools."

Anyway if you're wondering why people still work to build the torment nexus, it's sustained by the need to fund their kids' class status later in life.

Edit: Contrast to Ontario (next post)

I am confused about if anyone will see this (and, separately, if there’s an app for this?) but anyway here’s what I was doing while listening to the Fediverse ep of Search Engine… home in London, making a dinner that ultimately contained too many beans for some of us to handle :/

I’m in North Scotland.

I work around energy & technology, usually at the point where the demo ends and reality begins. That’s where I’m most comfortable.

Outside of that, I like travel, films that reward a second viewing, and conversations that don’t rush to conclusions.

I’m mostly here to listen, occasionally to ask awkward questions, and very rarely to be convinced by a slide deck.

Also, a lot of snow recently. Here is our miniature Schnauzer desperate to get back indoors.

Golden Curry Pour-Over Soup
A gently spiced, versatile soup- works just as well poured over sautéed vegetables as enjoyed on its own.

Ingredients:
Sweet corn, sweet potato, chickpeas, grated carrot, red curry paste, fresh crushed garlic, chopped ginger, bay leaf, vegetable bouillon, 1 cup water, coconut milk, salt.

Method:
Sauté garlic, ginger & curry paste. Add veggies to sauté. Stir in remaining ingredients (except coconut milk). Simmer until tender, finish with coconut milk & salt

Golden curry pour over soup on kale with pumpkin seeds and avocado

mavens, I need your help!

I’m an inveterate Apple user since 1979 … got my first Mac two weeks after release in 1984.

My studio runs on Mac, and that’s not going to change … but I would love a dedicated laptop to leap wholeheartedly into open source computing.

I’m looking for recommendations on hardware and distro, Linux-newbie friendly, future-compatible, powerful yet still affordable.

Don’t need Windows or Mac for this – I want to discover a new world. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi!

I'm Cynthia from The Netherlands. Nice to meet you!

I've created this account to save my non-yarny friends from fiber-overload. I got chronically ill in November '23 and have been a lot ever since, both for fun and to save my sanity.

Apart from knitting I'm 'generally crafty' and love to read.

In a former life I used to be a copywriter and writing coach/teacher.
