ActivityPub API Client Reputation

<p>For the <a href="https://github.com/swicg/activitypub-api" rel="nofollow ugc">ActivityPub API Task Force</a>, I started an issue to discuss <a href="https://github.com/swicg/activitypub-api/issues/44" rel="nofollow ugc">OAuth client reputation systems</a>.</p> <p>A reputation system tracks which OAuth clients are known good, known bad, or unknown. Servers could use this information to limit what clients can do. For example, a server could prevent users from logging in with a known bad client.</p> <p>The reputation could be based on human curation and review, or on automated collection of evidence from historical behaviour of the client.</p>

seeing someone's "ai predictions" and it's "in one year, it will be clear things work"

and then "in three years there will be a 'challenger' event"

i gotta admit that's a hell of a way to hedge your bets

"i will be proved right, the naysayers are wrong, but also several people will die due to management negligence"

meanwhile in IEEE there's a "why is everything worse about llms now?" piece and it's just someone explaining that his roleplay sessions used to return errors and now it returns lies and platitudes

there's another write up about the html5 vibe coded parser and it's "yeah this is an awful lot of code from this rust project" and it's just

yeah the bits that worked are wholesale lifted from the training set, and then the llm adds bugs in heh

it's just yeah we've lowered the bar to entry for bad actors and raised the bar for maintaining any open project as a result

and somehow this is going to lead to a revolutionary fully automated paradise heh

sure enough i know enough spiders georg who use an llm responsibly but i am aware of how the rest of the tumblr post goes too

but yeah, hearing "don't worry, i checked every line of code produced" my dude thinking about consequences isn't your forte

Huh. Probably wasn't written about a world torn asunder by inequality, political polarisation, protests and geopolitics - oh as well as starting to be suspicious of your own possessions spying on you - these lyrics suddenly felt so relevant:

youtu.be/J9gKyRmic20

I'll take the message though, I won't dream it's over. We'll get there. We know they won't win.

I’m re-watching the original “Tron” probably for the first time since it came out in 1982. So much rotoscoping.

The “bad guy” in the film is a big piece of software that can talk. It is going across networks and vacuuming up every bit of code and data in the world, making itself (it claims) more intelligent, and resulting in all the programmers getting fired.

That seemed kinda silly at the time.
