When it became obvious that the primary consumer of bandwidth was corporate web scrapers powering generative models, I started being more selective about what personal projects (/+updates) I made public.

Ultimately I have no interest in doing subsidized work in the service of for-profit enterprises; and while there was always an undercurrent, lately the dynamics of the foss ecosystem have radically shifted towards that end.

Thinking back to the days when IRC was the main way I shared code.

Firefox should really strip down the browser to the core, make that performant and secure. Maybe even improve extension interfaces and then deliver whatever "AI" nonsense they want through extensions. Would make it so easy to stop having to talk about kill switches and how "hard" those are. Offer people all the slop extensions in the world and see who will download them.

Got an email from our local vet today announcing that she was retiring, and selling the practice to another independent veterinarian, having turned down several much higher offers from private equity rollup funds.

I am so grateful to Burbank/Toluca Pet Hospital's Dr Skaar for this. Having watched PE-backed rollups destroy so many veterinary practices, killing pets and ruining workers' lives, it's such a relief to know that our vet put her patients first.

Are there any older women that are gamers and are looking for new people to play with?

I'm 61 and have lost my gaming group for reasons that are not clear to me. I prefer playing with other women or queer folks.

But I'm open to other games. I just can't play anything in first person due to nausea. I prefer cooperative games to competitive ones.

I'm in Pacific time zone, and am available most any time during the day, with an exception of 5-7 pm. I usually get to bed around 10 pm.

I have a first laptop with HiDPI screen and trying to set GUI scaling in #Gnome.

I enabled experimntal fractional scaling, and set 166% scaling factor in Gnome settings.

For GDK apps there is no problem.
But many other apps are not scaled, or are scaled partly - window header bar is small. Is there universal solution to this? Or how do you set scaling on all GUI toolkits like GTK2, Electron, QT, Java?
