I wonder if we couldn’t attempt to do to SMTP-based email what RCS is doing to SMS

djb proposed some improvements both small (QMTP, MXPS) and big (Internet Mail 2000) about 25 years ago.

MXPS (which uses special magic numbers for priority in MX records to indicate support for particular protocols) in particular could be used to implement a superseding protocol.

Ideally you would want to supersede both SMTP and the RFC 822/MIME-derived message format, but in a trivially downgradable way

Mon fils handicapé moteur de 17 ans n’a pas la motricité suffisante pour ouvrir la porte de notre maison au retour du lycée.

Je suis le seul capable d’être présent de manière récurrente pour lui ouvrir la porte. Mais je suis au chômage et je cherche du taf compatible avec cette contrainte : je ne trouve RIEN.

Donc j’envisage d’automatiser la porte (poignée + battant) : avez-vous des contacts de serruriers ou associations compétente ou autre ?

Wie würdet ihr einen hoch angesehenen Wissenschaftler, der in TV und Print dauerpräsent ist, davon überzeugen, nicht bei Instagram zu starten ("so wie Sloterdijk"), sondern hier?

Die normalen Argumente kenne ich alle, aber vielleicht fällt euch noch was anderes ein jenseits von Digitaler Souveränität & qualitativer Reichweite versus Drecksumfeld & Faschistenfreund. Sollte eigentlich reichen, klar. Aber ich frag euch trotzdem mal.

What are your favorite -focused web browsers and search engines these days?

Historically, I've been a user (I've been using it since the very beginning of the project), but every year I have more and more doubts about the long-term viability of Firefox and I'm starting to think that the ship might sinking. A world with only and browsers will be a sad thing in my book, but it seems most people don't care about having diversity in rendering engines.

As for search - I've played a bit with and and they get the job done, but I'm curious what else
people enjoy and why.

After two weeks of running [1] as backup solution on my Linux and Mac machines at home, I will decommission the samba/timemachine setup I used in the past for backing up my Mac. Kopia is Open Source, fast, reliable and the built-in deduplication saves tons of space on my garage backed S3 storage[2]. And yes, I have extensively tested and verified the restore process :)
