@thejpsterJonathan ‘theJPster’ Pallant @mimir Similar to Chordates, aarch64 CPUs have two lobes in the ALU. Cortex-M and R CPUs simply switch between the two lobes during normal operation to stay inside their power envelopes. It's theorized that if we find the right chicken bit we will be able to switch them into aarch64 mode. It may take a while though as it took a few decades to learn how to switch Cortex-A into AARCH64 mode.
It's unclear why Cortex-As tend to start in 32 bit mode, but the theory I subscribe to is that they do it to better mimic x86_64 which they have a predator/prey relationship with.

this specific form of greenwashing is so successful and has basically normalized the idea that we should be satisfied with a gradually-worsening quality of life. people will genuinely get angry with you if you bring it up, and point to leaflets with stock photos of immaculate, smiling actors who are overjoyed to have remembered to switch off the water while brushing their teeth, rather than perhaps the idea that somebody needs to be paid a living wage to fix the pipes, or dig a new reservoir
often when you see messaging like "we all need to do our part" it's a kind of cynical justification for cutting some essential, centralized, mostly-efficient public service in favor of an ad-hoc, individualist approach that externalizes the issue and disclaims responsibility for neglect and poor outcomes. if you protest such a change, or suggest that perhaps some problems are better dealt with collectively by pooling resources, then it must be you who are lacking the collective spirit!

日本高市早苗首相在1/18發表眾院解散選舉，將在2/8投票。
這對日本的政壇、包括她所屬的自民黨都是一個震撼彈，高市首相的消費稅政策與之前的政策有極大的差異，「限定期間食品消費稅0」這對近年持續提高消費稅來應對政府財源的政策「方向」有極大牴觸。
日本是個偏向保守的國家，循前例、循能順利運作的「成功」經驗是日本政治人物、官僚的一種本能。
高市早苗這次的眾院解散選舉，可以看出她在眾院甚至黨內受到極大的壓力及挑戰，因此她直接訴諸國民的選擇，坦白講高市早苗成為首相是一種自民黨內的妥協選擇，高市早苗雖然是自民黨出身，但她並不是因為掌握了自民黨而出線。
當黨與個人政治理念有所牴觸時，失去黨的支持高市首相的政治改革也難以執行，恐怕是因為這樣的預期，所以才會發生這個突然的眾院解散。
這個選舉是國民對於高市早苗政策的一個認同投票，「支持高市早苗政策的議員」是否被日本選民接受是一個重點。這不只是高市早苗對其他政黨、同時也是她對自己所屬的自民黨的挑戰，同時也顯露出她是為了「能改革」所以要做首相，如果不能不做首相也罷這樣的氣魄，是她賭上政治生命的大挑戰。

I'm subtooting here, namely a take that Wikipedia accepting AI money isn't a problem because that's then more money that Wikipedia has to go do good things that aren't AI, and that objecting to Wikipedia's actions amount to a purity test.
I disagree, though. WP accepted that money in a way that establishes a customer/provider relationship, and principles absolutely have to come into that discussion.
Is accepting money from customers trying to enclose and take ownership over all human knowledge consistent with the project of making human knowledge freely accessible? Does accepting a customer of that form create a financial incentive to work against Wikipedia's own immediately stated principles?

For small buffers approaching the CRC size, and/or where some bits are unused, a CRC can overlap all possible values and be used for correction. I recall seeing some code like that in an AES audio part of a broadcast compressed-media-over-coax-whose-protocol-I-can't-quite-recall codebase. Not ethernet, but unidirectional and noisy (old 75 Ohm cables running through the whole buildings).寒くねえ？
