You can install extra packages for FreeBSD by using the ports system.
If you have installed it, you can download, compile, and install software by
just typing

# cd /usr/ports/<category>/<portname>
# make install && make clean

as root. The ports infrastructure will download the software, change it so
it works on FreeBSD, compile it, install it, register the installation so it
will be possible to automatically uninstall it, and clean out the temporary
working space it used. You can remove an installed port you decide you do not
want after all by typing

# cd /usr/ports/<category>/<portname>
# make deinstall

as root.

depresso

The world is depressing me

- My home country is falling apart
- The world in general is falling apart
- People are vibecoding and slop generating all the fun out of the domains of creativity I care about
- Dealing with a lot of other difficult things personally that I don't even want to talk about here

It's just a hard time. Sometimes everything feels impossible. I'm still going, though.

i am really excited about this piece, because i spent basically no time on it. i can do the musical equivalent of low effort doodling on my computer now :D

the basic workflow is:
1) noodle with my virtual midi controller until i find a few patterns i like
2) use rose garden to record said patterns
3) redraw the recorded patterns in another layer using the recorded score as a reference
4) tinker

i feel like i figured out how to call down lightning from the heavens. i have something i can *practice* now, and while making this i had *ideas* for how to extend it. like the logical next step to turning this into a full song is to just repeat from step 1 for the next movement in the song. this strat is composable :D

merica thoughts

ok so the lower receiver is the part of a gun that is legally considered the gun, and that's the part you 3D print if you want to troll lawmakers and legal scholars and/or get in trouble (none of this is legal advice or particularly good advice for that matter)

what i want to know though is whether or not it retains its legally dubious status if you print it in chocolate and/or scale it by 500%

Bitlocker is a Microsoft product that encrypts your laptop hard drive etc. Apparently, Microsoft exfiltrates a recovery key for your Bitlocker encryption and stores it in their cloud, they give it out to law enforcement at request. And of course, they give it out to whoever compromises their system and steals that info. Bitlocker is completely worthless trash. Do not rely on it for information security.

my husband's new Windows 11 computer suddenly stopped outputting audio to the 3.5mm headphones.

I clicked the audio troubleshooting button in Settings. It did not send me to the troubleshooter, but instead redirected me to install a help app. (yes, it wasn't even pre-installed.)

The help app told me to click the audio troubleshooter button.

Satya Nadella owes me three billion dollars in emotional damages.

(we've fixed the audio problem by unplugging the USB microphone and rebooting. before you @ me self-righteously about someone else's operating system which was chosen in accordance with THEIR needs and not mine and certainly not yours, consider whether I might react with the fury of ten thousand suns)

and the little stories our day-to-day objects tell:

1) My stainless steel french press that I got from a charity shop for a bargain of only ยฃ2.
2) in a Bolesล‚awiec mug from a visit to Warsaw many moons ago.
3) This amazing Hario coffee grinder that my neighbour gave to me after they moved into the area, and they were decluttering the doubles of things they had.

Do you have a sentimental item as part of your coffee ritual, friends?

A stainless steel french press, a cup of black coffee, and a hand-crank coffee grinder on a wooden kitchen counter top.

Whelp, one of my remote hosts got hacked. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Iโ€™m sure this makes me look like an idiot, but hereโ€™s a post on what happened, anyway.

Lesson learned, I hope I can move on and not be paralysed by paranoia.
