사실 어느 순간부터 내가 가상의 중세 판타지 세계관인지 뭔지 하나 만드는 것보다 그냥 있는 현대 배경으로 역사적인 소재 같은 거 가져와서 만드는 게 (잘못 쓰면 빻을 수는 있어도) 후까시 잡기 좋고 뽕차고 도파민 작렬하기 때문에 어반 판타지 시도하고 있음

비슷한 이치로, 저는 솔직히 지금의 '무협'이라는 세계관이 (김용이랑 고룡 등등 살아있던 시절에는 애초에 세계관 형성기니까 넘어가고) 대단하다고 생각하지 않음. '(김용식) 무협 월드'가 지금까지 대단한 이유는 수많은 레퍼런스를 바탕으로 모두가 세계관을 공유하며 계속해서 재해석을 거듭하고 누적되어가며 발전되어가는 그 과정 자체가 하나의 원기옥 같은 거라 대단한 것이지 '무협 월드'라는 것이 대단한 거라고 생각하지 않음.

그러니까 요컨대 그거지요. 이미 남들이 만들어 놓은 '표준 세계관 양식(디앤디/J-판타지/무협이라던가, 심지어 마블디씨 히어로물도 포함임)'을 사용할 거라면 그 표준 양식을 꼼꼼히 읽은 다음 그 안에서 남들이 간과한 어떤 지점을 어떻게 재해석할 것인지, 어떤 부분을 새로운 지점으로 고안할 것인지 사전 체크가 되어있어야 한다는 것이고... 아예 새로운 걸 하려면 진짜 씽크빅해야 한다는 것. N.K.제미신의 <부서진 대지> 같은 느낌이라던가.
