But there is reason for hope, for optimism. Look at the cities that have been raided by ICE: Where the communities are engaging in mass resistance – normal people who must know they risk getting attacked and detained, who are willing to sacrifice their freedom and their bodies.
In the midst of the violence, let’s allow ourselves to be inspired by the heroism that is on display here.
Right now, it is not an exaggeration to say, Minnesotans are putting their lives on the line to fight for their city, protect their neighbors, and defend the Republic against tyranny.

I've been reading about the history of Manga and one of the things that really stands out to me is how little of the early stuff ever made it out of Japan.

Pressure on Senators •is working•. Previously head-in-sand centrist Senators are actually coming out to vote against ICE funding. Their positions are still weak and insufficient, and more need to cave to pressure — but they are visibly buckling.
Again, we should not and must not wait on elected officials to save us — they will not — but we can and should deploy pressure on them as a strategic tool in moments when that can be useful.

After months of struggling with the “zombie post” issue on Hackers' Pub—where deleted posts wouldn't disappear from remote servers—I had a sudden hypothesis today. As I dug into it, I realized it's a structural issue with Fedify's MessageQueue system: Create(Note) and Delete(Note) activities can be delivered out of order, causing remote instances to receive Delete(Note) before Create(Note).
The fix will likely require API changes, so this will probably need to wait for #Fedify 2.0.0.

I despise how security updates are
bundled with feature updates.
Now we have to choose between risking getting malware from random criminal gangs when refusing to update, or getting embedded malware from the tech company itself that comes with their update.

Now, the text of the GPLv2 famously starts with the following text:

I know that can lead to some FOMO if you wish you could be there too. There will be live streaming and lots of updates on the related hashtags.
We have a lot of other events throughout the year, around the world. Fediforum does a great job tracking Fediverse-related events:
I know there will be mean-spirited attacks from the usual suspects, trying to make Fediverse developers and enjoyers feel bad for getting together and talking about the things we love.
Every movement has its gatekeepers who don't want to do anything, but also want to keep the rest of us from doing anything, either. 🤷🏽
But I hope for people who actually care about the Fediverse, you know that you're wanted in this movement, and we can find ways to connect.
