If you’re a @phanpy fan using an iPhone or iPad, and you’re in the EU or Japan (where @altstore PAL is available), good news 👀

I’ve made a native iOS build that you can install right now through AltStore PAL! It's called... iPhanpy.

It’s still Phanpy at its core, just without the usual iOS PWA headaches. It feels smoother, stays longer in memory, and even comes with a neat Liquid Glass app icon.

If you have AltStore PAL installed, you can copy the link below and add it as a source inside AltStore:

raw.githubusercontent.com/matf

And if you don't have access to AltStore PAL, no worries: it's gonna be available on the App Store soon!

Good news 🙌 Following our campaign in September (donoharmbc.ca/national-standar), WorkSafeBC has announced that once the most up-to-date standard for respirators in the workplace (CSA Z94.4) is released, they’re going to review it for future updates to BC’s workplace regulations.

This means we’re one step closer to getting up-to-date best practices about workplace N95 use and airborne transmission into BC law!

Thank you to everyone who wrote in to WorkSafe and attended the public hearing. Your voices made an impact! If you want a refresher on what a CSA standard is and why this one’s important, find our explainer at donoharmbc.ca/national-standar 😷

An illustration of three masked workers. Text reads, "Tell WorkSafeBC to use the newest standard for N95s and other respirators. Campaign update! More info and talking points: DoNoHarmBC.ca”

Hello folk!

Some people seem to think that the "craft of ux" is dead: striving to be polished is naive. E.g. snapchat & Instagram stories, which are horrible UX, are claimed to be "good enough".

I'm writing a blog post exploring this but need links to any examples of this type of good enough thinking?

I'm expecting mostly techbro types will say this

EDIT: I shouldn't have called out Instagram so strongly. It's odd but not horrible.

(Doing something I've been adept at for years and love doing right)

Unsolicited "advice" from the sideline: "Why are you not using AI"

But *I'm* the smartass, sure mate 🙄

(This is not about the work situation, this happened a lot last year in private contexts. It's infuriating.)

Towards Brussels for FOSDEM. My Deutsche Bahn bingo card is already full and we’ve barely left Berlin :)

I have of course added copious amounts of travel buffers to accomodate, lets see if they hold.

Tonight the waves of bot traffic hitting many of the servers I manage have intensified, including Brew on BSD Cafe, but not only that. Honestly, the feeling I have now is no longer the same as it was some time ago (AI scrapers), but that there are real disruption operations going on. I can see it’s much more concentrated around certain providers and certain datacenters. If I block some countries like China, the numbers drop dramatically.

I still haven’t figured out whether there’s something specific and targeted happening (a broad DDoS) or if they’re still scrapers, but they honestly seem really dumb.

Maybe we should just create an alternative network and leave the Internet to these entities.
At this point they’re just talking to themselves anyway.
