Pinterest laid off its only icon designer as part of their AI-focused layoffs.

My current advice to my mentees in tech is that if you want to distinguish yourself, it's by how deeply you've embraced AI and how much it's made you more productive. Being the voice of opposition to "AI slop" or "work slop" is a great way to volunteer for the next round of "AI productivity gains" driven layoffs.

For many people who’d been inside that bubble of comfort, particularly at national news orgs, the story •started• with those two murders. They now seem to have a half-formed mental narrative that runs something like this:

1. First the Trump administration started deporting a lot more people.
2. Then ICE murdered Good and Pretti.
3. Those two escalations caused widespread unrest in Minneapolis.

That narrative is wrong.

A recent estimate says using Claude Code is similar to running a dishwasher: simonwillison.net/2026/Jan/20/

If you are a vegan monk who never drives and also hates LLMs, good for you: you have my respect and admiration. But I don't think this is what's motivating most people's arguments.

I've mentioned in the path that we aren't in an AI bubble but instead in an OpenAI bubble. This morning, I realized that the bubble is already beginning to pop when you consider the stock prices of the companies whose growth was based on their partnership with OpenAI.
