What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

Top tip for all you folk out there - go and have a widdle before doing lead-acid battery maintenance.
It may lead to one of those "I can just manage this cell, then I'll have to run" moments, then you forget the noise the deionised water makes when you pour it into the dispenser, let alone the slow. controlled dribble into each cell.
Also, it's 4°C out there - that doesn't help.

My mom (in her 70s) is always asking me questions about AI, so last time I was home I showed her how Claude Code works so we could vibecode a Wordle clone together. I also showed how I would normally write code in an editor to make a few final tweaks.

When we were done she said, “I had no idea what you did for a living was so boring.”

RE: mastodon.social/@manualdousuar

I'd avoid MoltBook completely, but OpenClaw is useful.

If you are doing anything useful with LLMs, run a local OpenClaw instance or put it on an old machine.

I have mine giving me daily briefings and tracking todos for me. I can see the weather, tips on how to dress the kids, track school events, birthdays, important upcoming events, and a ton of small details I have always wanted.

I don't think it's doing anything; all operating systems won't have the option of doing for you in five years.

I've been experimenting with distributing Go binaries as wheels on PyPI so you can execute them without installing them first using commands like "uvx sqlite-scanner ~/Downloads" - I wrote sqlite-scanner in Go

I built go-to-wheel to help implement this pattern simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/4/d

Mastodon and Pixelfed support video uploads, but apps on their APIs can't deliver TikTok features—that's SkyLight's limitation. Loops For You algo requires deep platform integration. It's architectural, not something you bolt on afterward. You should checkout Loops 😉 joinloops.org/join-the-beta

Mastodon and Pixelfed let you upload videos, but apps built on their APIs can't provide TikTok-level features.

That's the approach SkyLight is taking.

Loops' For You algorithm is a platform-level feature that requires deep integration.

It's not something you can add to Mastodon, Pixelfed, or GoToSocial as an afterthought, it's architectural.
