What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

Techbro stance: "Regulating AI is hindering innovation."

The purpose of regulation is to protect humans from harm, support wellbeing and promote societal sustainability.

So the techbro stance is "I can't invent new stuff if I can't fuck with people's lives and health."

Except that's not innovation, that's abuse.

Politicians and media really need to start understanding the difference.

Imagine a simple, yet powerful messenger app with deep Pixelfed and Loops integration.

Public Channels, Group Chats, Stories, E2EE, Fediverse Private Messages.

Conversate, Create and View Stories, Chat across 3rd party integrations (xmpp, discord, slack) and more.

Wouldn't that be sick?

If only there was some guy who made 2 platforms to deeply integrate this into, while keeping it open, extendable and compatible with other software.

Like just imagine. 😉

"Our government seems to believe the American people are stupid when it comes to Jeffrey Epstein. Not naïve or confused — stupid, as if we can’t put together basic timelines, read plea agreements, or notice when a serial sex trafficker keeps skating through consequences that would flatten anyone else."

~ Julie Roginsky

I work in an NHS hospital. Why is our access to the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual and Reproductive Rights website blocked? Why do we block any website that mentions "Abortion" as standard!

The answer is the American company Trend Micro.

Screenshot of Trend Micro blocking the website https://epfweb.org/ because of "Abortion".

Top tip for all you folk out there - go and have a widdle before doing lead-acid battery maintenance.
It may lead to one of those "I can just manage this cell, then I'll have to run" moments, then you forget the noise the deionised water makes when you pour it into the dispenser, let alone the slow. controlled dribble into each cell.
Also, it's 4°C out there - that doesn't help.

My mom (in her 70s) is always asking me questions about AI, so last time I was home I showed her how Claude Code works so we could vibecode a Wordle clone together. I also showed how I would normally write code in an editor to make a few final tweaks.

When we were done she said, “I had no idea what you did for a living was so boring.”
