As another commenter pointed out, this is likely a change made in response to scraping of metadata (see: OCLC lawsuit against Anna's Archive, etc). However I suspect it would be trivial for a scraper to create a WorldCat account and then proceed with harvesting metadata from the site. Maybe this change is just to establish the context that the metadata is not a free resource for anyone to access online?

Amelia and I got to visit the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels--specifically the old masters collection--and it was fascinating. Didn't have nearly enough time to see everything, only a couple of rooms before closing time. They don't prepare you for how large these paintings are in real life.
I hate that I had to think about the modern equivalent of asbestos--the wonder material of AI--at the time, but it made me think of how a line its proponents often use is that the introduction of generative AI mirrors the advance from painting to photography--a line that's been said to me even on this platform. Of course, that's a lie. Photography never replaced *this*. It simply cannot.
The matter of trusting programs that have all or part of the code generated by #AI is one of those things that, I think, is going to end up being solved only when companies shipping it - where bugs and security flaws and objectionable/illegal materials created by it - are subject to steep legal repercussions
We can't audit code, and human code has bugs too. But human code isn't able to be responsibility-laundered so easily as AI is now.
In the end; value is trust, and trust is accountability.

@: 돌고래 진짜 싱기... 제주 발령받아 잠시 살때 날 좋은 계절엔 주말마다 딸내미 데리고 배낚시를 다녔는데... 돌고래를 만났어요. 삐죽 고개 내밀고 한참 보더니 쏙 들어간... 선장님이 보시더니 어린애 보고 갔으니 좀 있다 떼거지로 올겁니다. 말 끝나기 무섭게 돌고래 열댓마리가 몰려와서 애가 젤 잘보이는 곳에서 공중제비 물총쏘기...한 5분을 그렇게 인사하고 가더라구요. 평생 첨이자 마지막일 진귀한 경험을 했습니다.
