Shades of 2024 when a strong “uncommitted” primary vote for unopposed Biden presaged electoral disaster.

Thinking about "prompts" is the wrong way to think about working with programming agents. Magical incantations were necessary in 2024 but not now. The word "prompt" can be exorcised from your vocabulary. You just need to know what you want and be able to hit the key words that are necessary to reduce ambiguity. Don't worry about "one-shotting" a "prompt": just describe, verify, describe, verify, until done.

I dictate 100% of my "prompts" to Claude Code. They all look like this.

If it’s time for open source to get political that means accessibility and project demographics that reflect society, correct?

It means conferences that are safe for disabled people and gender minorities, correct? It means conferences without racist nonsense, correct?

It means equitable funding practices that don’t require playing silly games with corrupt “anti-corruption” practices, and no need for small projects to hire grant writers, correct?

It means looking at the impact of EU tech supply chains on the Global Majority, and giving money to local projects instead of trying to get a bunch of pale Europeans to cut out the “White Man’s Burden 3.0: Bleep Bloop Computers” nonsense, correct?

Or do organisations mean “getting political” to mean “Murica bad, Europe good”? Same nonsense, but the US flag has an EU flag stuck on over it. Not that, correct?

Kjenner jeg begynner å bli spent og ha litt nerver. Selve slide-decken er jeg ganske trygg på, men har ikke planlagt veeeldig nøye hva jeg skal si på hver slide.

Som vanlig blir det litt på sparket.

Help wanted!

I'm tweaking the password feedback on @manyfold; removing the client-side dictionary checks *vastly* reduces the JS size, but it means the initial client-side check and the proper server-side check are different.

So as not to surprise the user, I need some decent words for:

"the security indicator is just a guide, stronger password security checks are done server side when you submit the form, so even if this goes green, it might still be rejected"

Any suggestions?

Wist je dat er meer dan 30.000 camera’s hangen in Amsterdam?

Ik ging met een groep onderzoekers en bewoners de straat op om camera's te spotten. Daarna ontstond een mooi gesprek over wat dit betekent voor onze stad. Waarom hangen al die camera’s er? Wat gebeurt er met al die data? En hoe krijgen we als bewoners, ontwerpers en beleidsmakers weer grip op de technologieën die onze stad vormgeven?

Te vaak wordt technologie ingezet simpelweg ‘omdat het kan’, niet omdat het de oplossing is voor een probleem. Dankzij de inzet van GroenLinks is Amsterdam gestopt met dataverzameling in de openbare ruimte zonder duidelijk doel. We willen geen nieuwe projecten waarbij data wordt verzameld, tenzij van te voren duidelijk is welk probleem we hiermee oplossen.

Er is nog veel meer aandacht nodig voor al die andere camera's en sensoren in de stad. Denk aan de slimme deurbel, waarbij bedrijven als Amazon toegang krijgen tot beelden van onze openbare ruimte. Uit recent onderzoek van VNG bleek dat 70% van de Nederlanders zorgen hebben over wat er met die opnames gebeurt.
